Actually, that doesn't really help. The argument that it's not racist revolves around the idea that they made a black guy white rather than allowing their mascot to be black?

Blind Jim Ivy

No he wasn't.

One amateur historian said he might be based off of him, but was laughed off.

There's also a super easy eye test to determine if he was based off of this blind Jim Ivey character.

After becoming very successful Aubie drew national attention and has spun the wheel with Pat and Vannah on Wheel of Fortune, headlined many Capital One Mascot Bowl commercials, and was featured in a story in Playboy Magazine.

If the rebel mascot was based off a black guy, then why wasnt the mascot's skin black?

While University of Mississippi historian David Sansing has stated that "Blind Jim [Ivy] may have been the model for Colonel Rebel." This conclusion is not supported by other historical research. Accordingly, William F. Winter Professor of History, Charles Eagles, contends in his book "The Price of Defiance: James Meredith and the Integration of Ole Miss" that this is clearly not the case. Sansing cites "the late Frank Everett" as the sole basis for this conclusion.[1][2]

So yeah whatever

Unbiased opinion is Arkansas' mascot. A razorback is just badass and unique.

That's not my argument, I was simply saying they should have replaced colonel Reb with something without the word Black in it. It's just stupid for them to come out with a mascot that is black and has nothing to do with the university. That's like Donald sterling saying he's not racist three days after he was racist.

I'd be okay with a shark...since Landshark is used a lot. But I'd rather not have a mascot at all if Colonel Reb can't be used.

I think him being interviewed in Playboy trumps championships anyway.

If I was running Public Relations over there, I'd choose a land shark as well. Y'all's fans love it, it has to do with the football program, and it comes with a hand gestures for the fans.
I think that was an obvious choice. honestly, It looks like the PR is full of a bunch idiots at OM.

A shark was a choice when they did the voting. But I think the voting was rigged by the administration. I feel the shark was voted a bunch. Buy they had their mind made up about the bear. Our administration can be stupid at times.
