The age old "stars dont matter argument".
Sorry but they do.
Back to back 50+ ranked recruiting classes is going to doom this team for the next several years. Without the 2015 class we would literally be a non-power 5 school when it comes to recruiting.
You can defend the "we do what we do" bullshite, but the facts are this program will NEVER win the SEC without consistent top 30 classes.

we'll know in a couple of years if works well. We'll know next year if it works. If we don't make a jump from this year, especially with the in state talent, we know we have problems.

I really think the protests hurt BO on his initial class. I think he can rebound if we have a solid year this year with the in state talent next. Time will tell, but I think the jury is out. It would seem to me that BO is very genuine and would do well in front of parents in the living room.

Stars matter of course, but again once you get past the very elite prospects nobody knows. Those guys are very easy to identify. After that it's a crapshoot. Even if these sites had top talent evaluators (they don't) they wouldn't be able to accurately rank them. Guys get rankings based on where they go, what kind of camps they attended etc. it's not accurate and can't be accurate because there are just way too many variables. At best it's a semi educated guess. At worse it's a "We've never heard of this guy and he's going to Mizzou. 2* sounds good" Gillespie and Gardiner are 2*? L O fricking L.
So teams in the top 10? Yeah, they probably out recruited us. A team 15 slots in front of us? Who knows. Maybe, maybe not. After the play to fans is fulfilled by these sites, the substance of what matters occurs. That's where Odom will have to make his hay.
Also, you've said we can't win with classes outside of the top 30 and Pinkel has emphatically proven that wrong. He never had a 4 year average in the top 30 and he won 10+ games 5 times. Fielded two teams that were legitimate contenders. It CAN be done. Just takes the right guy to do it.

Your points posted are all valid.
Yes BO should be feeling the pressure to win.
He sure as hell needs to show marked improvement this year

Gillespie and Gardiner are 2*? L O fricking L.

Well, if you are judging Mizzou football by conference championships then you are not going to be a very happy camper.

They started off as 2*...try to follow along.
I get you are a star gazer. If you want to blindly follow some nerds that work for recruiting services then do you.
Here is the thing. Does BO have pressure to win. Well frick, of course he does. I mean no shite. Football games. Football games. Not some arbitrary ranking. Football games. That's his pressure. A quantifiable scoreboard. Clear winner. Clear loser. Not some subjective number that's made to get fans panties ruffled in the offseason.
If he wins, nobody will care about his recruiting ranks. If he loses, no one will care about his recruiting ranks. See the pattern? It's offseason fodder. Nothing more.

Well they are now threes errwhere except rivals. You try to follow along simpleton.

Odom underachieved last year. He needs to achieve this year. Then we can discuss overachieving.
Posted on 3/28/17 at 12:22 pm to the808bass
6-8 wins is achievable with this schedule.
Less than 6 we're in trouble for the long haul.
More than 8 and we're

Hey COU, since you mentioned a potential FB program pivot point being this years excellent crop of home grown talent, I thought I should pass along this bulletin put out by the National Recruiting Safety Bureau for all MU football fans and dreamers:
quote:
WARNING: Everyone prepare, save youselves, Be sure to wear your reinforced nut cup protection at all times. Hurricane "Disappointing Recruiting" is headed our way. It looks to be a real nut kick of a storm especially since this year MU's home soil has been unseasonally fertile. This will only makes this recurring storm more frustrating as this special crop languish on the vine never to be properly harvested.
