Kinda like the year Dooley didn't sign a single offensive lineman? Yeah, ive heard it all.

Taking out their contest against each other last season, both Butch Jones and Bielema have faced 14 teams that finished ranked in the Final AP Poll.... and actually for both, the average ranking of those opponents was #10.64

I'd say those schedules have been pretty even.

ok, well Bert also has fewer wins over the past 3 seasons, unless you think Bert should be credited with more leeway in comparison to Butch. And two of Bert's losses are getting beat by Toledo and blown out by TTU, as well as all of his SEC games his first year and six of them his second

Bielema gets a lot more leeway than Butch. Really, look at the state of the other power programs in the SEC East during his entire tenure-- the best team he's had to contend with is, generally, a Georgia winding down the Richt era.

Bielema's split with Tech, lost a P5 road game to Rutgers, and the loss to Toledo does hurt-- but it is largely mitigated by winning the two bowl games against P5 conference teams very handily, and winning back to back against the best teams Ole Miss has been able to field, and the borderline contender LSU.

The 'He Lost To Toledo!' bit gets bandied about a lot, but it generally just demonstrates how little attention people pay-- Toledo wasn't a *bad* team. They just weren't a P5 team. Florida catches a ton less flack for a loss to Georgia Southern under similar circumstances, despite being perceived as a better program.

The recruiting argument doesn't hold up to scrutiny either, when trying to claim Petrino had left more on hand-- his classes were built on bulk signings of skill position players, most of whom worked out of the program or left even before he did-- and his other high points were a couple of linemen who washed out of the program before BB's second year. Tennessee had a much stronger talent base from which to work, against significantly worse competition.

That doesn't mean BB is immune from criticism; he's likely to hear a lot of it, even at 8 wins before a bowl game. The muttering will really be loud, if they come out of the gate 2-2 this year, as well-- he can't afford another slow start.

It'd take a truly catastrophic year-- 4 or 5 wins-- to make his job be in question.

How bad would Kentucky have to be for Stoops to get fired? I think they'll make a bowl. They have some good players and he's been recruiting great for UK standards.

What about 'em? You lost to a team that lost to them. And in a borderline erotic fashion to boot. You don't get the rights to troll us about those losses when we beat you the same year we lost to them.

Could be a lot of them.
Les Miles, Kevin Sumlin, and Gus Malzahn are the ones I think stand the best chance of being fired.
And Nick Saban may quit.

Always an excuse. If writers have us low in the standings, there is an excuse. Recruits don't pan out, excuses. Finish with lower than expected wins, excuses. It's time for next year to finally show up.

You must have a radar for anything remotely related to Les Miles being fired.

Sumlin 75%
Malzahn 60%
Miles 25%
Stoops 20% (Should be 100%.)

Plus a harder path to the National Title.....

I also think that firing a coach as successful as Miles would scare prospective coaches away.

look at the teams from the west tennessee has played. look at the teams OOC Butch has played. look at Arkansas' record against the East if you're trying to use that as a crutch for Butch

because arkansas had no business losing to them at home or at all

They just weren't a P5 team
you want to knock Butch for the east being down. do you think his east opponents are any worse than freaking toledo? can't have it both ways

Butch entered into a similar situation. dooley went an entire recruiting cycle without signing a single OL

i know you believe this, but i just disagree with it

Here we go again. You're giving props to Bert for something that Butch has done too(and in a more convincing fashion against better opponents).

Bowl Games - opponents - Score

Bert

Liberty Bowl vs K-State (6-7) 45-23
Texas Bowl vs Texas (6-7) 31-7
total points for/against: 76-30 (opp record: 12-14)

Butch

Outback Bowl vs #22 Northwestern (10-3) 45-6
Taxslayer Bowl vs Iowa (7-6) 45-28
total points for/against: 90-34 (opp record: 17-9)

You both deserve flak. You both lost to G5 teams. Shouldn't happen in the SEC

This all goes out the window when you consider that Dooley didn't recruit a single offensive lineman in the 2012 cycle. Skill positions? come on

It'd take a truly catastrophic year-- 4 or 5 wins-- to make his job be in question.

I just feel bad for you that its his 4th year and you wouldn't want him fired if he went 6-6

5-7 likely makes his seat very, very hot. At this point people want a bowl game with what he's recruited.

I think Kentucky will win at least 7 regular season games. Stoops isn't going anywhere.

Dude, no matter what you say to try and disparage Bret Bielema, he beat Tennessee on the road last year.
