And so it begins...

quote:

The private university has referred to the Confederate Memorial Hall simply as "Memorial Hall" since 2002, but was blocked in court from changing the name chiseled on the building because it was constructed with the help of a $50,000 gift from the United Daughters of the Confederacy in 1933. Under the agreement, Vanderbilt will pay $1.2 million, the equivalent of the gift made 83 years ago, to the organization's Tennessee chapter. In exchange, the chapter will relinquish its naming rights to the building.

Meanwhile at MTSU...

quote:

About 30 miles to the southeast, Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro wants to remove the name of Confederate Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest from one of its buildings. The public higher education system overseeing the school endorsed the change last month, but the proposal faces a tougher hurdle when it reaches the Tennessee Historical Commission.

Pandering to the peasants. Sad that the educated elites have no grasp of history.

Sad that some people desperately hold on to a whitewashed history that allows them to celebrate slavery, and then make outrageous claims that the rest of the world doesn't know what we're talking about.

Picture for reference.

...and I really don't see the big deal about this at all. I read that the building went up in the 1930s, so it isn't like it holds any real connection to the Confederacy.

I thought the same too. It's sad they only root for blacks when they are playing for their teams. Don't hide how about you tell them you consider them to be peasants also plus their families(them meaning the black football players)

I wonder which eight or so professors got fired to pay for this. Or maybe just three or four administrators got fired. But I'm sure they made up for the cost in the budget somewhere. What's funny is that they're giving a huge gift to the UDC. They should find the closest billboard to campus and just put "Deo Vindice" on it in perpetuity.

Don't worry your pretty little head about it. The welfare state and the police state have done far more to destroy the black race in this country than any southern racist could have ever dreamed of.

Good post. I bet that 1.2 mill really hit a school with a 4 billion endowment hard.

Honoring the dead of the Confederacy, most of whom believed they were defending their home is not the same as being a supporter of slavery. We honor the dead of the Revolutionary War yet they fought under a banner that allowed the ongoing enslavement that was rampant. We honor George Washington and Thomas Jefferson though they themselves had slaves. The US banner flew over the genocide of the native peoples of the Americas. Many people view Vietnam and the Iraq War as being unjust yet we honor the common Soldier who merely signed up in service to his/her country.
