Ole Miss could do better, but Memphis has been a Top 50 program for most of this century - when we got them back on the schedule we had no idea Pastner was so terrible. From 2008-2014 Kansas State was a solid program.
As you guys have said, I think its time to drop the SWAC teams.

Yep. The 250+ RPI games are what kill the schedule. As Boise and a few others did in past years, you are much better served playing a D2 school that does not count in the RPI or as an official win than playing Grambling or MVSU.

The problem is Arky played 7 teams with RPIs of 250+. That kills you.
You have to have something to fill out the schedule. It is all about matching scheduling dates. Most of the mid majors who are decent, are in the north or northwest. Being in the south, most of the time, if you aren't a big boy school, you suck at basketball.
Arkansas has always scheduled upper tier teams OOC since I was a tiny tot.

Barnes will say whatever he wants and will speak for the rest of the pathetic league coaches.

Yea, like I said, it's a balancing act. If you can do it scheduling the teams that consistently are in the top of their leagues is a huge plus for scheduling. Gottfried used to always do that and our RPI would always reflect it.

Mighty Rick Barnes, 41-49 in conference his last 5 years of coaching. All hail.

I'd rather LSU focus on beating the College of Charleston first. leave us alone, Rick
If we're gonna lose, might as well lose to a top opponent. Would do WONDERS for the RPI.

Rick Barnes just took his name out of consideration for the TCU and Oklahoma State jobs.
For those who don't get it, in 2007, when the Kentucky job came open, Rick Barnes preemptively and publicly took his name out of consideration. Kentucky's response was, "WTF, we never considered you in the first place".
So now a coaching job isn't officially open until after the coach has been fired and THEN Barnes takes his name out of consideration.

When Big Dick Barnes speaks, others listen.

Collectively, the league isn't scheduling bad OOC games. Sure, some are early money games and easy wins, but for the most part, most of the programs are scheduling a pretty good mixture of upper, or should be, upper echelon(top 50) type teams.
Tennessee, South Carolina, Auburn, and Georgia certainly could schedule a bit better though
You do realize UGA played the #4 overall nonconference schedule right?

Someone is actually quoting Rick Barnes? Rick Barnes????
Come on, quit pulling our leg.
BTW Rick, glad you scheduled at least one ranked team this year.

their bad losses cost them
I love that USCe fans keep trying to throw UGA in as a bad loss. *We* had bad losses (and a shortage of top 50 wins), which is what kept us out of possible contention other than winning the tourney (namely Auburn). We were not your "bad loss". Top 60ish RPI to finish the season, 4th hardest OOC schedule. Winning 1 game against us would have indeed been another top 100 win. Unfortunately, blasting that gamecock arse actually decreased your RPI and hurt us in the process.

It had nothing to do with the OOC teams being down this year, on SCAR's schedule.
I'd say it had everything to do with that. Were you able to go let's say 10-2 through your OOC schedule and played a couple of decent teams, none of the games you just mentioned would have mattered. Again, I don't fault you guys for teams like St. Johns falling dramatically from their recent norms, but it doesn't change the fact that your OOC schedule was so poor that it would have required exceptional play through the conference schedule to offset it.

Rick Barnes is a good coach. But watch out for your sorority girls Tennessee. Before Slick Rick gets a hold of them

That is simply a benefit from not playing any 200+ RPI teams.
Chattanooga being a lot better than anticipated also helped that RPI.
You do realize Georgia should schedule higher profile teams, right? Thats the point of this thread.

These five are the real issue here and who he was talking to (even though we know Howland was probably locked into a bad schedule).
162. Missouri
197. LSU
215. Mississippi State
271. South Carolina
297. Ole Miss

It is going to suck when SEC teams overdo it next year and we all have shitty OOC records.

As someone else stated, that ranking is a bit misleading.
This is not a notable OOC schedule for a power 5 team with NCAA tournament aspirations.
vs. Armstrong State
vs. Chattanooga
vs. Murray State
vs. High Point
at Seton Hall
vs. Oakland
vs. Kansas State
vs. Winthrop
vs. Georgia Tech
vs. Clemson
vs. Robert Morris
at Baylor
