"It's not hard. There's 50 teams that are top 50 at the end of the year. Obviously you can't predict all those things that go in to teams having good years or bad, but you can give yourself an out by playing almost all quality opponents in non league. This year we were locked in to kind of a bad schedule by the time we got hired in March, but if you see next year we are going to play 7, maybe 8 teams that finished in the top 50 this year. Up to 10 based on who we play in Maui. We have a lot of teams in this league that are playing way too many buy games. They're filling up November and December with Ws rather than quality basketball games, which doesn't do anybody any good. I think when you look at us only getting three teams in that's a direct result of this terrible scheduling."

"It's great that the SEC Network puts all of our games on TV, but your goal should be to get on ESPN. When we play Gonzaga and North Carolina and Indiana and Virginia and out in Maui next year those are going to be on ESPN. I don't understand why so many coaches in our league are okay with playing Pondwater State 8 times on SEC Network when they could be getting national exposure and helping the league with quality games."

"There has to be a fine system in place for the damage these schedules are doing to our league."

Also said he and Cal will do a presentation in Destin on moving SEC Tourney to Tuesday-Saturday and thinks the league will go back to East/West scheduling but not the divisions themselves when it comes to standings. Said it almost passed last year and the east coaches want it.

This has needed to happen for a long, long time. The NCAA has been fricking SEC teams that go deep in the conference tournament on seeding and placement with games on Sunday.

I don't agree with the fine though. Only because when you schedule some of those Top 50 teams who are actually willing to schedule you, you never know what's going to happen with grad transfers, NCAA punishments, etc. Especially with longer termed contracts.

You have to find a good balance as someone who isn't at the top of the conference between scheduling teams that you can feasibly beat and ones that raise your RPI/SOS.

How many teams didn't do this? Especially with the challenge with the Big 12 and how strong it was that was one guaranteed for like 7 schools

So he basically just pointed out the problem with his proposal. But I do agree with him on the fact that SEC teams should play tougher teams, personally I would love to actually see us play a quality OOC team at home for as many basketball games as there are in a season it seems like we rarely have every play a quality OOC at home maybe The Pavilion can actually help us with that.

Yeah I understand why you couldn't actually do the fine but I like the idea.

I'm very excited about getting UNC and Indiana in to Thompson Boling in the next couple years.

When Pearl was here getting Texas, Ohio State, Kansas, UVA, etc. home games in December were always a lot of fun.

Tennessee has a great OOC next year, I think if more teams strived for a stronger schedule like y'alls more people would actually get interested in College Basketball in December.

A good solution to this problem is having more of these "SEC vs. Big 12" challenges and other respectable conferences. Obviously it can not be the only thing done but it would certainly help.

As he said they were locked in to a bad schedule. He was only able to get Gonzaga because he and Few are such good friends.

He also added GT but obviously they weren't top 50. Rest of our non-con was already full with shite games outside of Butler.

Shows though that first year coaches shouldn't be held to this standard.

Barnes made it sound like in another interview that the Big 12 will not be renewing the Challenge after next season because they aren't getting anything out of it.

At what point in time? Today for '16-'17?

Example, in 2000-2001 Alabama played Louisville in December and beat them. Pretty good win, right? Well, that turned into one of Denny Crum's few losing seasons and he resigned. Alabama arguably wound up the 2nd or 3rd team left out of the tourney that year.

Point being scheduling can be a gamble taken out of your hands.

At the end of the season. So, looking back on 2016-2017, after the season ended, how many RPI Top 50 teams did each team play.

It's the only way I can figure Barnes could figure out how many "Top 50 teams" somebody played.

I remember well. However, we also played about 5 teams from the SWAC that year. We got left out and have played really good OOC schedules most every year since. We learned our lesson.
