I first tried that stuff when I was a senior in high school. I had some friends who played football at Sam Houston State and they showed it to us because thats what they smoked to beat drug tests. I did it a handful of times, but I hated it. My heart would beat like crazy, I got really bad headaches, and it made me paranoid as hell. I hated how I felt on it so I just stopped. That stuff is bad news.

It is something a lot of kids his age would try. He should be fine. This will be a lesson learned.

Most authentic aren't even sold "legally" these days. There's just such a profit margin on them and constantly changing laws that most head shops just carry them.
A lot depends on the owner, I haven't been in Oxford in a few but would be surprised if Local Color ever even sold synthetic weed (legal or not).

It's constantly changing and from what I've seen, unless you are busted with pounds of the synthetic weed that has been banned for a decent time frame, you can easily get out of it. You are basically selling a chemical that you can claim wasn't illegal at the time you bought it or sold it, if you are smart about your business.

Getting weed in Oxford is never a problem, Memphis and home grows from the country surround the college town. Getting away with an NCAA drug test is a different problem

I have dealt with plenty of kids over years of smoking that shite, It causes some people to go into respiratory arrest and other to have a complete psychotic break. I have seen some people not right again after smoking it. It is marketed as a synthetic cannabinoid but it is really more like acid and cocaine mixture when mixed but it also for some reasons causing hallucinations with psychiatric issues.

Not to kick a guy while he's down, but if he has a drug problem he probably smokes both and anything else that tickles his fancy.

He most likely smoked it to avoid failing a drug test. They need to legalize the real (and harmless) shite and this stuff will go away.
The silver lining is maybe people will think twice about smoking the synthetic stuff. This is the most high profile case of OD on synthetic "weed" that I can remember.
