I was never a very big fan of JL, but I certainly didn't want to lose him. I would imagine he was slated to get a lot of time next year.

He was a bit out of position for us in a 4-3, but he was going to be in the 2 deep i have to imagine, at least early in the year. We must be feeling pretty good about DE.

Also, at first it seemed implied he was forced out, but since then Brian Perroni said it was JL who wanted to leave because of his role/playing outlook here. I would think he goes to a 3-4 team, but IDK.

How Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin ended up in the hottest seat in American college football

Coach Sumlin has the Hottest seat in ALL of college football

He is on the hot seat. 4 straight November collapses tends to offer that to a coach.

Do I buy that ESPN bends its coverage for the Longhorns more than any other blueblood? No.

Do I buy that the local low rent Dallas Morning News that has employees that are Longhorns more often than not and therefore bends its coverage towards the Longhorns and the Big 12? Hell yes.

Apples and Oranges.

Idk if I would say he has the hottest seat in america, but he's gotta be top 3. Brian Kelly and Jim Mora have to be up there.

I can't say the premise for the article is really slanted or propaganda. The actual content, ehhhhh

guys, I know that every topic veers off course now and then but this recruiting thread has gotten bad. We had a commit yesterday and there are like 20 off topic posts since any information about him. Tomorrow is JUCO signing day. There will be all-star games upcoming and a lot of news. It's a very busy time for crootin

It's cool if you want to talk about other stuff. Lockhart's transfer for instance is definitely news. I started to give some input but realized I'd be continuing down the same path

But if you want to discuss that, I'd ask that you start a new thread on that topic or post in the many already started on various other topics y'all are veering into

OL Dan Moore flips from Oklahoma State to the good guys

Moore is a guy that sort of flew under the radar. His offers before this year were virtually all by G5 schools other than OSU. He committed to OSU over the summer and I'm guessing they found him at one of their camps

Anyway, he sent us his senior film on Dec 3rd and we offered on the 6th (as did Ole Miss). Easy to see what to like. He's huge, has some agility, and plays with a mean streak. Reminds you a bit of Jarvis. He was also selected academic all-state

The Lockhart transfer is relevant because that currently puts us at 60 expected scholarship players for next season, which would only allow us to sign 25 (we currently have 26 committed).

With the news that Armani Watts is staying, we still have to attrit between 3-5 more to pull in the class we expect.

no it's not. That's relevant to Texas A&M football.

We're taking 32 this year. Overall scholarship count doesn't matter to that.

Please stay on the crootin topic

So we have 6 spots left.

Who else are we going to get? Just going off CB and stuff I have seen (no subscriptions anywhere), below are my guesses.

1 RB Etienne LINK

1 CB Sheffield LINK

1 DE Jones LINK

1 or 2 DT Wilson LINK of course would be the gold medal, Bethley LINK looks more likely

1 LB Levi Jones LINK seems to be trending out way after LSU apparently backed off him.

Do we take another OL?

I have not seen much news on him since he couldn't play his senior year but I would think we would still have a chance with Zabie LINK

that's all pretty reasonable. Our DE room could use work so keep an eye on that

2017 - commitments in ()

SR - J Johnson, Cunningham
JR - Durham
SO - (Clemons)
FR - Madubuike, (Ty Johnson), (Robinson)

I think we have a mind to take another JUCO DE just to fill out the pipeline because next year you'd only have 2 upper classmen, one of whom is a squad guy and the other won't practice with us til next fall. That's a bit unnerving. The guy we're looking at is Kinlaw who already has an OV setup for our big weekend in January.

And a big concern is Johnson continues taking visits. I think we'd like to take 3 HS DEs this year so even if we add Jones, I don't think we can afford to lose Johnson. If we did, we'd be back in the JUCO market next year again you'd have to think.

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure when we took Moore that shut the door on 17 OL recruiting. But I'm not going to swear to that because the Hocker injury has us concerned. On that note, was told Hocker and Blumrick will not be enrolling early due to their respective injuries.

They are all going to $%^& on our program. We are fighting everyone in the Big 12 and SEC for recruits. They want nothing more than complete chaos for our program and our mediocre media arm is not very savvy. These guys need to build momentum for the programs in the Big 12 because it pays their bills.

Butch Jones utilized a "loophole" (LINK /) to build his program.

-He counted back players (up to 5)
-"Blue Shirted" Player walks-on and then he is awarded a scholarship---sounds similar to a "preferred walk-on"
-"Gray shirted" Kid takes a year off and enrolls with next year's class

I'm not sure how TX HS coaches would react to these tactics, but UT and Bama have utilized many of these with various levels of success.

bUTch does it to an extreme. He also offers the most kids in the country each year. He plays the game the opposite of sumlin. From my perspective Sumlin's usually uses the approach that less is more, and kids will appreciate you being more low key than max exposure, max contact etc etc.
