And this is why it's hilarious that we started seeing a bunch of "Sumlin is the best at recruiting" threads on Texags again. Don't count your chickens before they hatch, it's a long way to go to February.
We can still close this recruiting year out strongly, but another 7-5 or 8-4 ain't going to help, need to put together a good season.

At this point, I don't think Sumlin stays even with 9 wins. OU taking recruits from Houston again. We are trending down and without a great season, meaning playoff or 10 wins, he gone.

So you are saying we rip everything up and start over with the UH staff?
Kevin Sumlin- Tom Herman
John Chavis- Todd Orlando
Noel Mazzone- Major Applewhite
Jeff Banks- Jason Washington
Moorehead- Darrell Wyatt
Terry Joseph and David Turner- Oscar Giles
Jim Turner- Derek Warehime
McKinney- Kenith Pope
I'd rather get rid of Moorehead and McKinney. McKinney is the Houston recruiter and Moorehead has seemed to really struggle to connect with recruits. Replace those 2 with some "elite" recruiters.

Yeah I'm guessing Herman wouldn't be hiring his UH staff with the budget we would give him
Posted on 8/9/16 at 7:41 am to ShaneTheLegLechler
Herman would be Fran part 2 the sequel

Holy shite, Nice melt.
Apparently these both come from the negative backlash from chalk talk. We sure do love to shoot ourselves in the foot.

Creed Humphrey flipped to OU. Rough day for our staff
Nobody is going to want to hear this, but this is Chalk Talk related.
I was in Oklahoma and spoke with one of his family members (not immediate family) who actually brought the subject of his commitment up with ME upon hearing that I am an Aggie. We weren't even talking football prior to this. This person made Creed seem VERY excited to be committed to A&M and playing for Turner. Not just 'ho hum, yeah he is committed to A&M now, but may go to OU in the end'. No, stoked to be going to A&M is how I'd describe it. Here's the kicker, this person told me he and his parents were in College Station that weekend. So the next day, I woke up and read about this Chalk Talk stuff and all I could think of was Creed. Here's a guy from out of state, with a Giant of college football in his state that wants him, and his parents are in town for his POSITION COACH to get suspended! No doubt they felt humiliated by proxy. I fully expected this was going to happen, have been waiting for this show to drop, and here it is...

You say that, but on other boards they are running with "oh this was his plan all along", "this was a dupe by OU and he was in on it". As if the kid was in on a conspiracy. BS. I'm glad people here can see that this is due to Chalk Talk, but that realization is not universal.

I refuse to believe that the fake outrage over chalk talk really made a difference in these, just a convenient excuse for kids thinking about changing or exploring options

That is a huge assumption. Sumlin's contract is good until 2019. Herman is already making over $3M , so he wouldn't leave for much less than Sumlin. You would be essentially paying for 2 head coaches, possibly 2 staffs, plus any buyouts.
LSU had to deal with far less last year to hire Fisher and they couldn't pull it together.

If we can't hire him, we can't hire him. If we are able to do it financially, he is going to have a budget where he can hire an SEC staff. He isn't dumb, he's not going to take our job if he's given a C USA assistant budget

This seems redundant

You don't think that being in town from out of state with your parents only to have your position coach get suspended like an adolescent for making the chalk talk for women into a series of dirty jokes would sway your commitment? Put yourself in their shoes. Both the kid and the parents were, against a lot of local pressure, excited about A&M AND DEFENDING IT TO PEOPLE. When Turner did his thing and it became a national hubub, I don't doubt that they felt really embarrassed by association, not to mention mad. They go down there and then the guy they came to see is suspended? I'd say screw A&M too if I were them. We've got no one to blame but our own damn selves.

Firing Sumlin we would still owe him $10M, plus Herman's reported buyout of $2.25M, plus Herman's salary. You'd be paying arguably close to $17M+ for the first year of the HC contract.
I believe Mazzone, Chavis, and possibly Applewhite have similar deals.
This is also one of the worst possible years to be in the coaching market. 3-5 SEC coaches on the hot seat, Baylor and possibly Sip job available, possible Big 12 expansion, and possible retirement of some big time coaches.
