Do you the big boosters really give two shits about basketball?

As much as I love Football, it's frustrating that it casts such a large shadow over the rest of the other sports. Yes gymnastics, softball and golf have all found major success, but our other big revenue sports have been left to wither and die. Yes most of it has to do with with coaching, but the apathy from the AD is amazing. I get it- we're a "football school". That's our cash cow and we'll stick with it forever. But just look at all the other "football schools" like OU, Florida, Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, UCLA, And Texas. They've all experienced major success in other sports. Why doesn't the AD want the same type of success for the rest of our athletes? I'm not saying that they're purposefully holding the other sports back, but I feel they could do so much more for them.

I will say that the new baseball field is a great start.

Was told by a client that does business with a member of a certain board in Tuscaloosa that Grant will be back. This was two weeks ago. Take it for what it's worth...

It was so easy to predict what Bama would do this year.

A few mediocre wins among many head shaking sub par performances.

If Grant stays, id expect nothing better next year.

Oh, and if you happen to be reading this, Mr. Battle, this is the first time I not only didn't go to a game since the 80's, I didn't even care to go.
Bring in something new, something fresh, something with a pulse, and Ill be back. That's my promise.

I'm starting to believe that Grant keeps his job if he makes the NIT. No insider, just the feeling I'm getting as a fan.

100% Agree. Take a look at that Top 10 list of revenue generating athletic programs and you'll see only one school out of that 10 that hasn't made a Final Four....The University of Alabama. That stat should be alarming to everyone who cares about UA. It would fire me up if Battle came out and said that he is setting a goal for Alabama to get to the Final Four in the next 15 years. Basically like Kennedy's speech for the moon.

I believe the AD is so football centric that they think/believe that everyone will forget about basketball's issues come Spring Practice and Football season. They know that their jobs are safe as long as the football program is spinning on the proper axis. They're probably right but they've fostered an enivronment that has allowed things to come to that. They'll allow a thousand gumps to storm the field for fan day but God forbid we give our students decent seating for a basketball game. Any of the above mentioned schools would cut their losses immediately if they had a coach with the record of Anthony Grant. The University of Alabama has a huge brand name but that brand is irrelevant in the biggest tournament in college athletics. We don't have to be in the Final Four but the University should be demanding much better results.

What scares me is that all of the football credit goes to Saban. He's responsible for the success of the football program. This same group that has allowed the basketball program to sink and is coasting on the Saban wave. That group will be responsible for filling that leadership void...and that doesn't give me the warm & fuzzies...especially when you consider how we floundered for the 25 years before Saban arrived.

I'm not alarmed. How has making the final four become an indicator for having a successful season/program? Why count FFs and not national titles, it's only two more games. Win four games in a row, at the right time is all that it takes. If Bama runs the table and loses in sweet16 is that a failure of a season?

Baylor has two FF's, yet they have a .489 W/L record all-time and finished ranked three times, ever. That is good for 325th, I'll take Bama's history with no FF's any day.

Top revenue does not equal basketball success for Bama or any other school. Teams with three or more national titles...
-UCLA
-UK
-Indiana
-Duke
-Louisville
-UConn
-Kansas
-UNC

How many of those schools were on the top ten revenue list?

Its not the only basis to judge a program but it certainly is one of multiple indicators. Izzo's reputation is built more on making multiple Final Fours than it is from his sole national title. You can apply context to any team's run in the tournament and compare & contrast this program with that program; but more often than not, going to a Final Four is indicative of a strong program and great coaching. Rarely do teams back there way in and usually one trip to the Final Four is surrounded by other successful trips to the NCAAT.

The other programs in the Top 10 of revenue have been at least once. Alabama hasn't. Programs are judged by what they do in March. The best run we've had in the tournament happened 11 years ago. Our last win in the tournament came 9 years ago. Our last SEC Tournament win was well over 20 years ago. If all you have to do is win 4 games at the right time, then why haven't we done it? What has stood in our way? We have the resources. Considering we're discussing Alabama's lack of commitment to basketball in terms of coaching, resources, arena, etc. I think the absence of a Final Four banner hanging in Coleman means something when one looks at Alabama Basketball from a macro level. UA constantly gets accused of being a football only school and it has never reached the Final Four. In my opinion, there's a correlation.

If Bill Battle came out tomorrow and said "Our goal for the basketball program is to reach a Final Four in the next 15 years" and over the course of that time we reach an Elite Eight, 3 Sweet Sixteens, 6 trips to the 2nd round, 8 or so bids to the NCAA T, and an SEC championship or two, I think most people would be extremely satisfied. Yeah, we didn't reach a Final Four but our goal of taking our program to a championship/relevant level had been accomplished.

That would work for me. At least Alabama Basketball would be fun again.

I know everyone wants Grant gone( and rightfully so) but with Hall and Austin coming in I think we can be pretty good next year and it will be "put up it shut up" time for our AD.

yea we won't be terrible, we'll be about 18-14, the same as this year.

It's all about making the tourney. The end.

Hopefully Auburn's run in the SEC tourney will embarrass Battle enough to pull the trigger on Grant.

Unless he has bad luck with injuries/guys not buying in/etc...

Then he gets one more year because it's only fair. Honestly, we are making a pretty strong sales pitch for when we finally are looking for a new coach. Alabama: where you can have one tournament appearance in 6 years and still not be fired.

Absolutely nothing leads me to believe that we'll be any better than we were this year. Grant's ceiling is the NCAA Bubble...and that's when he gets all of the bounces to go his way.
