Not that it was worthwhile to begin with but this thread got OT as shite. I's gonna get in trouble.

I told my grandmother I was going to a few Catholic sermons and you would have thought I confessed to shooting someone judging by her reaction.
I dated a beautiful Mexican-American girl in HS (whose family had been in Texas a hell of a lot longer than just about anyone). She was of course Catholic. My Baptist deacon father blew a gasket. Repeatedly. I loved it.

It still seems odd to me but not as odd as their funny redneck accents.
For those familiar with Southern Louisianans, this is the funniest post of the year. You're from Brooklyn? WTH are you saying? And then you talk to the next guy, who's entirely unintelligible with his Creole blather. Take a step west and you get Cajun nonsense. And you fools think the rest of us talk funny! That's priceless.

I still have no fricking clue what is going on with Speedy Noil's accent.
That's 100% Yat, i.e. the New Orleans accent that often sounds similar to Brooklynese.

I love all your stupid accents. I wish mine was stronger. My parents co-opted a more "country" accent in their later years, but they raised me to speak midwestern generic.

Certain parts of Louisiana barely speak what could be called English. I've literally had someone go 10-15 words into a statement before realizing they were speaking English.

Catholics gave us Mardi Gras.
And for those of you that own any of the 3,274 Girls Gone Wild Mardi Gras episodes - you're welcome.

No shite, I used to live in DFW. I learned how to order at the drive thru in Spanish because it just saved time.
