Mississippi
Alabama
South Carolina
Georgia
Louisiana
Arkansas
Tennessee
Florida
texas
Kentucky
Missouri
BTW... I work in Memphis(for the city) and live in Jonesboro(NE Arkansas) Northeast Arkansas is more southern than the most "Southern" city/region in Tennessee.

I agree, NE Arkansas is pretty southern but I'd consider Memphis to be southern too. Cotton Carnival is a hell of a time
Greers Ferry, Harrison, Gilbert, to NWA isn't southern imo, more hillbillish. My grandparents have a house on Eden Isle. Love the area but wouldn't consider it southern

Yup.
Portions of Texas are more Southern in culture, but many different regions of the state aren't.
We kinda just do our own thing. And I like that a lot

You can't pull random houses out of Germantown and label them plantations
Posted on 4/6/14 at 12:56 am to GeorgeReymond
Uh, every home I listed is on the Tennessee historical places list.

1860 painting of Belmont......

Then you should be ashamed. Our plantations make your plantations look like slave houses

It's not a competition dude. Just thought I'd post for everyone's enjoyment. But yes, many of these are older (1790-1820s) and are more utilitarian

It's all good. I really am surprised more weren't burned during the Civil War. The Carnton actually served as a war base during the war and is haunted as hell

The northern part of Florida is the most southern place on earth. I have experience.

Missouri isn't the 'least southern'. Missouri isn't southern at all. That's like saying Justin Bieber is the least black guy in the Temptations.

I agree with this. There is no Yankee influence in W Texas whatsoever.
Go to Odessa, compare those folks to Florida, and get back to us.
This is perhaps the most idiotic thing I've seen posted on the Rant, which is quite an accomplishment

So much insecurity here.
A: "We're southern."
B: "Not southern enough."
A: "Yes we are. Look at our food!"
B: "But ours is real southern."
A: "Your houses aren't."
B: "LOL. Uh, in 1863 this house here was the most special one on the block."
A: "Please call us southern!"
B: "What do you wear on game day?"
blah blah blah
Some of you need to find your own identities.

Florida may not be more southern than Texas, but they are more southern than Kentucky. Texas and Florida were among the first seven states to secede from the Union; Arkansas and Tennessee were among the last to go, with Kentucky remaining in the Union.
I think that he means today. You know the way things are now........ Gump.
