Yeah we don't have much hardware but we have our first ever top 10 and top finishes, our 1st 3 11-win seasons, longest win streak currently in the nation and an ongoing school best, a few all-americans, 1st ever 5-game win streak vs Clemson (1st 3 game and 4 game win streak vs them since the '60s) etc. etc. etc.
Spurrier is doing what he's doing with less money and inferior facilities to Florida, Tennessee, Georgia. When Kentucky finishes their latest round of improvements...the Wildcats will have better facilities than South Carolina. Same thing with Missouri.
That leaves the Gamecocks ahead of only Vanderbilt in the SEC East in terms of facilities.
I'm not ragging on South Carolina by any means. In fact, I'm in awe of how well they've done with as little as they have compared with their conference brethern.
And yet South Carolina would have top-flight facilities in just about any other conference other than the SEC. So it's all relative.
TL-DR version: Spurrier is da man!

Both schools are going to have better weight-rooms than USCe. UK is doing a major league upgrade, and Mizzou's new weight-room was built with a donation.
UK will have 75 suites when Commonwealth Stadium's renovation is complete. USCe's Williams-Brice has 18 suites. Mizzou's Faurot Field will have 35 suites. Both schools also will be building a ton of loge and club seating...1,800 for UK, 1,200 for Mizzou.
To put this in perspective, UK will soon have more suites than UGA or UF.
UK will also have something really cool...a new recruiting room:
Mizzou will be adding one of the neatest takes on premium seating I've ever seen:
The news from Columbia on upgrades to Williams-Brice...[crickets]
So the view from here is Spurrier is doing a lot with less, and he's not getting a lot of help from his Athletic Director.

Last time I checked the players spent time on the field and not in the suites of the stadiums....
Also they're breaking ground on our new indoor facility soon, and beautifying williams brice after the upcoming season, no new seats true, but a nice facelift.
Plus the AD is helping out a lot of other sports besides football right now, soccer and softball mostly.
Check it out here LINK
ETA: Stadium expansion at WB is basically last on the list.

Don't look directly inside the stadium and look around Williams-Brice. Not trying to flame but parts of your post are foolish, especially the last part about not much help from the AD. SC has done a complete overhaul around Williams-Brice. Also added a huge video board recently, and the work is not done outside the stadium. We begin building our brand new indoor facility next year as well.

You act like I'm USCe's case, but I'm not. I'm a big fan of Spurrier, and I think he's done a lot more with less.
I'm just pointing out the discrepancies between what USCe is doing in terms of upgrades to facilities as compared to what both UK and Mizzou are doing. I admit I didn't know about you new indoor facility...grats on that btw...but UK is renovating theirs and Mizzou just built a new one. So the Gamecocks are't gaining ground there, they're catching up.
The reason I'm harping on the lack of premium seating is, it's the means that funds the upgrades. Mizzou is funding their new upgrades largely through sales of premium seating.
USCe should take note. And really, I'd love nothing better than to see USCe do well. Always one of my favorite teams. So there is method beyond my madness.

No. He's done great with what he's had to work with. He's the best coach in the SEC.

A few years ago, yes. We didn't have much and what we've got now is owed mostly to him. But now that he's got that here, why would he leave? The roster has his hand-picked talent, he has unquestioned local and institutional support, the facilities are completed or nearing completion... what's a near 70 year old guy want w/ starting from scratch?
I agree at this point he is too old to start over, but when he came back, why USCe? i don't think winning a NC was priority number 1
Posted on 3/6/14 at 4:10 pm to HinesvilleThrill
Maybe while at Florida - Mediocre bowl record, no undefeated season, losing record vs FSU.
Can't really say the same about his time at USCe, though. Hard to imagine doing much better there.

quote:If anyone in the SEC has underachieved its Mark Richt. He has had plenty of talent at UGA and has only managed 2 SEC championships and no NCs in 13 years. Spurrier won twice that and a NC in just his first 5 seasons at UF. Spurrier's numbers have dropped from being at USCe where he has had little talent.
Has Steve Spurrier underachieved?

Late to the party. We've already covered that. I just thought Spurrier would have had at least one more national title at Florida OR a SEC title at USC.

I agree that Spurrier is a good coach, and I really wanted him to come to Bama before we got Coach Saban.
Why can't everyone just be happy with the coach that they have and stop this put down of other coaches. Spurrier has not done enough that he has the right to try and make these cute little remarks about other coaches and other programs. What has he won lately? That might have been cute when he was a young coach and winning at Fl. but it looks stupid and juvenile now for a man almost 70 years old to be talking like this. Just run your own program and stop talking about other coaches.

I only got two things to say to what you typed.
First off gameday is the only day of the week that matters. Everything that happens up to that point is absolutely meaningless. If you got out there and some team mops the floor with you by 40pts you still got your arse beat it doesn't matter how hard you practiced the week of the game or how much film you watched.
Execution is much more important than preparation cause you can still prepare for something and bomb it.
Secondly lets be real here. Saban's never built any program. When I talk about building programs I'm talking about a coach going to a place with absolutely no history of winning or being competitive on a regular basis.
When Saban went to bama they had just won 9 games or so a few seasons prior. Hell they we're going like 3-9 and still getting top 15 recruiting classes. You know what happens if you go 3-9 at USC you don't get no top 15 class. You do things like go 0-11 or 1-21 in two seasons. Lou Holtz had about 2 decent seasons but nothing compared to what spurriers done here.
How can you doubt a man who's won DUKE!!! SABAN AIN'T NEVER HAD A PROGRAM THAT BAD!!!

He's underachieved and Lou Holtz doesnt get enough credit for rebuilding South Carolina.
Also Mark Right at UGA > Spurrier at USC

Well, frick.
I heart the OBC. One of the GOAT. Any school would be lucky to have Spurrier as their coach, in the present or in the past. It will be a very sad day when Spurrier gets out of coaching. I hope like hell ESPN grabs him and he carries on "being Spurrier" on the airwaves. Have I mentioned that I heart the OBC?
