@Andrew_Gribble: As promised, WR Kenny Bell was back at practice.
Good news...hopefully he gets his issues worked out.
Concerned about Fanning however

You must didn't see Henry pass protection he looked lost as hell.
Go back and read what I said...
"Fowler was great at pass pro last year before he got hurt doing it."
He has shown he can be good at it. He needs more reps in practice. Splitting time too much makes him ok at both but not great at either. We need a sledge hammer that is good at pass pro also. The other RB's are not ready so time to get Fowler ready.
Every year Saban has had one back that is the sledge hammer and another that has more space danger. TJ is the space guy, Fowler needs to be the hammer.
That combo plays hell on the LB's getting their timing down for tackling in a game. They get used to taking on the hammer so they are a step late and wrong angle with the wiggle guy. The get used to staying back for the wiggle guy and the hammer lays the wood to them.

It bothered me seeing Fowler play scared

Don't let it. He's rusty and two Saban has mentioned once youre past the rehab, the hardest part is being mentally ready. Alfred Blue from LSU had some of the same issues. That's tough to trust your knee is not going give way. Give him time. Regardless of the outcome of this season I hope fowler plays himself into a second round draft selection.

Setting the scene
Alabama wore helmets, shoulder pads and shorts for its fourth practice of the week. It was occupying the back portion of the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields. The weather was bright and sunny with temperatures hovering in the low 90s.
What we saw
-- As we revealed in our headline, freshmen Luke Del Rio and Cooper Bateman have drawn the assignment of playing Johnny Manziel in practice over the next week or so. Each player sported No. 2 and worked with the other quarterbacks through early practice drills.
-- Here's something we found to be interesting. Freshman Parker McLeod, who was one of three playing the role of Logan Thomas in last week's practices, wore No. 16. That number belongs to Manziel's backup, Matt Joeckel. Joeckel played well during Saturday's first half as Manziel served his one-half suspension.
-- BamaOnline.com reported Wednesday that DE LaMichael Fanning was not at practice. He was back today and wearing his normal No. 44.
-- Before Alabama's quarterbacks threw passes, an assistant dipped the ball into a tub of water. This is something we don't see every day. Accuweather.com currently projects a 51 percent chance of rain and a high of 91 for Sept. 14 in College Station.
-- RB Kenyan Drake, who wore a scout team jersey during last week's practices, was in his normal No. 17 at today's practice. Altee Tenpenny, meanwhile, wore No. 21. That number belongs to Texas A&M RB Tra Carson.
-- Some popular scout team numbers: 95 (DL Julien Obioha), 8 (LB Steven Jenkins), 16 (LB Donnie Baggs), 83 (DL Alonzo Williams), 29 (Deshazor Everett), 31 (DB Howard Matthews) and 5 (DB Floyd Raven Sr.).
-- Former Alabama athletics director Hootie Ingram was in attendance for today's practice.
What's next?
Nick Saban and select players will meet with reporters after today's practice. Saban won't be on for the full hour, but we're told you can hear his voice on "Hey Coach" tonight at 7 p.m.

Sound's like we're going to try to take JFF out.
Just kidding about that, but it's good we're preparing for the backup since he's a totally different type of player.

Am I the only one a bit surprised to not see Blake Sims playing the scout team Johnny Manziel? I realize we probably can't risk getting him hurt if god forbid something happened to AJ, but he seems like the best person on the team to replicate what Manziel does.
Maybe Bateman and Del Rio are more athletic than I am giving them credit for

I didn't think about it, but yeah, I am a little surprised. But I also think you are correct in that we don't want to get him hurt.

The Tide wore full pads again and practiced on their regular practice fields. They moved to the far fields closest to Hackberry Lane in Thursday's workouts. The temperature was in the upper 80s as the team took the field for the late-afternoon practice. Also check out video of defensive backs here.
What we saw
The most important position in light of defensive end Dalvin Tomlinson's knee injury is his replacement. He saw playing time against Virginia Tech was certainly part of the plan for Texas A&M.
-- Freshman Dee Liner was taking reps behind starter Jeoffrey Pagan during individual drills and the media viewing period. Fellow freshman Jonathan Allen worked behind him, but that's not necessarily a depth chart indication.
-- A'Shawn Robinson was behind Ed Stinson at the other defensive end spot.
-- Darren Lake, Korren Kirven and Wilson Love appeared to be the rotation at nose guard.
-- Defensive line coach Chris Rumph had praise for Lake at one point for making a smart move.
-- Strength and conditioning coach Scott Cochran surveyed the scene while lobbing some enthusiasm at the offensive line, defensive line and kickers.
-- There were no updates on Tomlinson's status after Nick Saban announced his unspecified knee injury Thursday.
