not to mention Houston's WRs were dropping wide open passes (a few easy TDs even) left and right that game.

I think they knew he was out and it got into their heads.

Had to develop his talent. This may be hard to believe but UH does not get the cream of the crop here in Texas. And some of that can be attributed to the fact that his 1st and 2nd string QB went out early in the season during the SAME game. Any program would suffer for that kind of blow.

exactly... chizik's background was as a DC and defensive position coach, yet his defenses as a HC stunk. Sumlin is a former OC who's produced very good QBs and bigtime numbers.

There is no comparing the two, really.

It was at friggin Houston and a good chunk of those losses came the year he was whittled down to his 3rd string QB by the middle of their second game.

Just like the turnovers by Johnny Hangover against LSU and his second half flop against FL these things never happened, or at least that's the convenient line of thought for A&M.

Chizik was an excellent recruiter every year he was at Auburn.

I don't think Sumlin = Chizik, but I do think Sumlin will have to be extremely careful to avoid the pitfalls that have doomed many coaches in this league who grew to star power extremely quickly. The sustaining part is very difficult if you do not have the experience and respect required to control 85 players who now think they are gods and nothing can take them down. If one or two players become bigger than the program, Sumlin will fall just as fast as Chizik and Meyer did. This league is extremely unforgiving to any team that lacks discipline and focus. Talent alone will give you 6-7 wins in this league because every team is talented.

ask Todd Graham and Gene Chizik how things went the year after gus left.... maybe even Nutt would like to chime in. All three certainly looked better with GM as OC.

So you just have to hope that Manziel stays healthy, because your depth at QB is atrocious. Sumlin has showed that when his star quarterback goes down, he's a 5-7, 6-6 type of coach.

It doesn't matter that Keenum got injured, Sumlin went 5-7 in fricking Conference USA, and somehow managed to lose to Rice two times. Rice can barely field a football team.

We have 4 QBs on the roster that would start for Arky. You could probably make an argument for HS SR Kyle Allen

This is his first season as HC without Kliff Kingsbury on staff. We shall see.

That's not true. I know it, you know it, everybody up and down the street knows it.

Having one foot out the door is not an excuse to lose to that SoMiss team.

I lived in Houston at the time and remember it vividly. People were talking about them making a BCS bowl, arguing that they should play undefeated LSU in the Championship game (was never going to happen).

If that kind of stuff can't keep you focused even if you are leaving the program, then it says volumes about your coach.

Give me an example of when he has won a big game with all the pressure on his team.

Brandon Allen is atrocious and you have nothing behind him. I have no doubt that every QB on our roster is better than him

They have tons in common, at least the last two years, relying on ONLY ONE player.

In Sumlin's defense, 2010 Auburn relied on 2 players.
