Uh, no. Sumlin actually won at another school. They'll probably fall off a bit after JFF, but not like Chizik because Chizik was HARRRRRIBLE.

It doesn't matter that Keenum got injured, Sumlin went 5-7 in fricking Conference USA, and somehow managed to lose to Rice two times. Rice can barely field a football team.

Rice is 2-0 in bowls ('06 Texas, '12 Armed Forces) and has a 10 win season ('06) under David Bailiff.

They are not consistently good but they are hardly the worst program around.

Troll harder brah.

Sumlin also was OC for the OU team that obliterated all the offensive records...

Gene is an 8-27 coach without Gus and it showed. Kevin runs his own offense and it works...he is not like Gene at all.

Seems closer to Chip Kelly than either of these.

Without Cam Newton, Gene Chizik is 24-38 as a HC with a 3-19 record against top-25 teams.

Without Johnny Manziel, Sumlin is 35-17 as a HC with a 5-1 record against top-25 teams.

Are we really having this discussion?

The NFL practice squad scrub?

At some point it might be time to consider that the only reason Keenum set all those records was because of Sumlin.

Thoughts?

to be blunt, i think you are way off base even suggesting this. chizik's record before comming to auburn was awful whereas sumlin had houston playing at a very high level. he, and the SEC, are responsible for the aggies being a cool place for a recruit as opposed to a shite school with shitty military traditions by guys that squeezed thedir testicles (while sherman was there). sumlin seems like the real deal to me and i agree with otheres that a shot at the NFL may be hard for him to pass up in a few years. i know it would be for me if i was in his shoes.

I think one season is REALLY too early to tell.

I honestly don't know what I think of Sumlin. His offense is amazing when he has the right qb to run it. The thing is, he seems to have relied on 1 player at both A&M and Houston. When Houston's quarterback got injured they were terrible.
