you don't think Cholly Mac didn't have the elite players from La too? Or does Les's players just get to eat more bacon and eggs?

Only one I'd even think about is Spurrier. And I'm not really sold on the idea.

Never said that.

Statement was what has this guy won.

For his first year taking over a complete dumpster fire he did an outstanding job.

Exactly. Les gets it done in a way that doesn't follow the typical stereotype of a college football coach. Smoke and mirrors don't get it done over the long haul. dinardo Les is the man.

You know what? You're right. Spurrier has the greater historical resume, but at this point and time and take Les Miles. And I'd take Miles over Urban because I'd rather grimace at the once-a-week nonsense he says, than the once a month soulless douchebaggery of Urban...and I like having one or two players who aren't felons.

I wouldn't trade Saban for him, but objectively he is better than any coach on that list other than Spurrier or Meyer, and there are reasons to take him over those two. I'd stick with the Hatter if I were LSU.

Hey I'm not taking a dump on your coach man in fact I think he's a damn good one. But right now today I don't take him over Les. There are several wait and see coaches on that list and Freeze is one of them.

I don't blindly subscribe to "my" AD's opinion, and I'm pretty sure there is much more to that "story."

Forgot to add - when I hire an OC, I want someone who is proven to understand offense and someone innovative. When I hire a DC, I want a defensive genius. For a RB coach, I want someone who deeply knows the position of RB...and so on.

But for a head coach, I want a winner who doesn't humiliate the university. He barely passes on the second part, but he is a great success at the first. The head coach doesn't have to fit anyone's image of greatness - he doesn't have to lean on a goalpost smoking Chesterfields, or eat Little Debbies in a straw hat. He needs to build a staff that WINS. Does that not describe Les Miles?

I wouldn't even give Meyer the time of day for an interview. His character is too low for my football program.

Saban is the only coach in the country that is, for the most part, agreed upon best coach. So obviously he's someone most would take over Miles. But I don't have any other names where I'm like, "Damnd, I wish we had _____ for a coach!"

I've got no problem with that. I wouldn't take him over Miles either if I was you. Nor would I, we know what Miles can do. I'm hopeful of what Freeze can do.

Just thought the original comment was kind of silly. He's in his second year now so he hasn't had the opportunity to really do much. I certainly like what he's doing though.

Charlie Mac was a great coach, per family members who were fans of LSU, at the time. I wasn't around. Idk about eggs, but I'm hoping this year Bielema keeps LSU from eating our bacon.

What I find interesting in all of this is the omission of Saban in this discussion. Wasn't he a pretty good HC for LSU?

Eta- nvm, just saw above posts.

Do I think CLM is the best coach? No
Do I think this list of coaches would have done better overall? No
DO I think they may have won some games CLM lost? yes

Do I think Nick is a better coach? yes

Do I think we are spoiled fans who are still angry Nick is at AL and to LSU? yes

And the last question is why we have threads like this

We need to get over it and get on with this season

so, there is bacon there and available for the hogs?

my point is this,,,, the elite have always been available, La has always produced elite,, but there only have been a couple that has been able to get the elite to come and produce
Cholly was lovable, but marginal,,, in recent decades,,,only Satan and Les have got em to come,, and got em to play

He wasn't what he is today. I certainly appreciate what he did here but he wasn't the coach at LSU that he is today

And the media rarely gave him the time of day nationally

People act like he never lost a game here when in fact he lost 16, some which were unreal- UAB, un-ranked arky, un-ranked ole miss, destroyed by va tech, destroyed by un-ranked auburn, Iowa

While miles lost his 16th game in his 6th season
