Do you not remember the blown coverage and Bama's receiver running free and AJ missed him by 5 yards?

He was also throwing to a receiver with a sprained ankle (Cooper). I don't think Cooper played after the first series or two.

Here's to a constantly sacked AJ McCarron.

You do not need an elite arm to be NFL QB. Alex Smith has started in the NFL and he doesn't have an elite arm, but he can make all the throws. AJ can make all the necessary NFL throws. Go back and watch last years BCS championship game if you can take the pain. Those throws he was making in that game were NFL throws.

This is a great comparison, because that is the only future AJ will ever have in the NFL. Alex Smith-esque. A game manager. Efficient, rarely making mistakes, but not even close to a gunslinger or elite QB.

Not necessarily a bad thing, but it's not high-draft-pick worthy.

One question I do have about him, and I want serious answers.. does he have any leadership qualities? He seems sort of like the quiet-ish type to me, and there are other leaders on the offense (Jones) that would not require him to be a leader. I don't have that much exposure to him or the Gump media though, so correct me if I'm wrong.

If you think AJ deep ball is great , you're football dumb. Sorry. I'm done talking to you. You clearly don't know football or Atleast qbing. You just said AJ's deep ball is AS GOOD as anyone's. classic GUMP

You said yourself you watched all the games, yet you only remember two bad passes out of all 286. That seems pretty good to me. If you can point out all these other bad throws, I might be more inclined to believe that I really am being dumb and it's not just you having trouble admitting that you're wrong, don't know what the frick you're talking about, and are basing your opinion of how AJ throws the deep ball off of two passes you remember in one game.

BTW, I'm getting off the internets, so you have plenty of time to wrack your brain and come up with a good long list of bad throws. I'll check back tomorrow.

As much as I hate to ever support a gump in any way, it's not really fair to nitpick every pass. You will never be able to watch tape and find that a QB makes every pass perfectly. It's not even fair to assume that if they under or overthrow a pass that they're bad, because there are tons of outside factors. Pressure, turf, maybe they had too small a breakfast, etc..

I think it's a lot easier to judge a QBs stock by looking at the overall picture. It's the same with any position really. Stats aren't everything.

That being said, can you guys REALLY see AJ McCarron lighting it up in the NFL? I can't. Maybe my gumphate blinds me, but I don't think so. He will either be a career backup, or he will be a game manager for a team with a badass backfield (a la 49ers). JMHO.

You asked for two. It's not only the incomplete deep balls. It's the ones the we had to slow down to catch or dive to catch. I only used one half of one game an came up with your criteria. I met your criteria. His deep ball was non existent against LSU and the defenses are far faster and bigger in the NFL. Like I said , AJ's deep ball is good for college , not the NFL. Not yet. I believe he'll improve because he improve a lot last year

He threw a few pretty good deep balls against LSU in the national championship game back in January and the bomb he threw against Georgia's best defensive back for the game winner was on the button. He had a bad night and his #1 wide receiver had a sprained ankle. Had Amari Cooper been 100% that night, who's to say he wouldn't have been able to catch up to that pass and score a touchdown?

He is not ready for this draft. He, will improve over the next year. Then we will see where he goes.

Every report says he's the best vocal leader on the team. They gravitate to him, and why wouldn't they? He's a team guy who doesn't care if you ask him to only throw safe throws a week after throwing for 300 and however many TDs.

As for his skills, good arm, not great. Makes good decisions, mobile, nice deep touch, good measurables for the NFL, well coached, and a proven winner.

McCarron has 26 tds with three picks and leads the nation in efficiency. He's lost two games in two years and was being prominently mentioned as a Heisman candidate at one point this season.

On the other hand, he did overthrow a couple of passes this year so he obviously sucks.

Yeah he'll probably never be as great in the pro's as JaMarcus Russell or any of the other big time LSU QBs we've seen recently, but we like him anyway.

AJM will be a clipboard holder in the NFL....but he will get his opp's and time will tell.

Regardless, he'll make lots of $ and returning to Bama is smart for him. Although, I'd be worried about losing some of my Top OL.

The above poster had a link there, it wasn't like the line he has now is a great pass blocking line.
