If spurrier is so good, why does he have a third the number of national titles that nick saban does?
In fairness to any coach in the pre BCS era, the national title is a very tainted measuring stick.
Saban is the best but not because of the rings

Titles and wins are how coaches are judge dumbass.

Good way to get around that spurrier, despite having his way with recruits ant florida, and an sec that was weaker than today's SEC, could only win one fricking title. Face it, Saban's better than your OBC, and Mike LEACh too (especially since he is puzzled by the concept of "defense")

I don't think Saban is near the villain that many portray him as. He felt he'd done all he could at LSU and wanted to try his hand at something else -- the next logical step. It didn't work out as he wanted, he wished to go back to coaching in college in the SEC, and Alabama was the job available. I'm sure in retrospect he probably would have just stayed at LSU, but I think the fact that he left and then came back to another school that LSU has to play left them feeling slighted. I understand that, but I don't think it's entirely fair to Saban.

Oooohhh ooooohhhh ooooohhhh I got one.
If someone offered you, let's say $500, would you take it?

Clearly most big time universities do care about titles because that's how they structure the incentives in the coach's contract.

Spurrier had two seasons at Florida where he lost one or fewer games. He never had an undefeated season. He only had two real shots at the title and went 1-1. It isnt like he woud have gotten anymore under the BCS system.

Just because the SEC was weak doesn't mean the nation as a whole was. Derp,
Leach had a system that led a god awful program to winning seasons EVERY year he was there. Do you have any idea how hard that is?
As far as defense? The big12 doesn't play defense as a whole...

If Saban were to actually leave UA and coach at AU can you imagine what would happen in this state? There would literally be a civil war.

This is the only time I could ever conceive the thought of a state going megaton on itself.

Apparently...any LSU fan that answers no is just "butthurt" and jealous....or does this pertain to fans of all schools?

Stupid comeback as we are talking about national titles. When both competed with the nation, saban comes out on top. SAban-3 Spurrier-1

And he'll have his chance to prove it with the big boys. Tommy Bowden went undefeated at Tulane. Do you have any idea how hard THAT is?

In and of itself the "rings" are not a fair measuring stick in an all time equation.
In all fairness a coach at an Alabama, Ohio State, USC does have an advantage over a coach at out of the way west Texas & Boise or East Lansing Michigan. The location combined with his results does not put Mike Leach ahead of Chris Petersen in my formula let alone Nick Saban
