In and of itself the "rings" are not a fair measuring stick in an all time equation.

depends on who you're measuring. Measuring saban at bama/lsu with spurrier at florida is fair. Im not comparing Saban with those coaches using national titles. im comparing him with spurrier at florida.

Did you miss the part where you said that?

yes. because you still have to play SEC games before you go to national championship. Spurrier didnt have but two one loss seasons. Saban has two of those plus an undefeated season in two fewer seasons at two different places.

In all fairness a coach at an Alabama, Ohio State, USC does have an advantage over a coach at out of the way west Texas & Boise or East Lansing Michigan.

Saban rings gained in this era have value, in an all time equation how the rings were rewarded was subjective and limited thanks to Bowl ties ins

Spurrier was not limited in his rings because of bowl tie inns or bad luck. He was limited because of losing two or more games in every year but two. The two he lost one game he got his chance at a natty.

Im not comparing to joe pa or anyone else. just spurrier.

Saban will be considered the best because he raised two programs from the grave to the championship game quickly, I would rate him no lower had he lost the title game and not got the rings

Spurrier is one of the most overrated coaches out there, All that talent out there, and he only managed one title. And he needed a mulligan for that one.

Nah. It's much more fun to try and beat him.

And plus, if we had Saban and Alabama managed to beat us with Miles, I'd want to kill myself (much like I'm sure every Alabama fan does when it happens to them).
