Certainly there are arguments to be made. I think he's the best active coach. Probably not the GOAT or anything, but he's exceptional.

But it's still a stupid hypothetical because it's never going to happen.
Alabama is the only SEC team Saban is going to coach between now and the day he dies.
Also, the SEC Rant has a serious shortage of Saban hardlegging threads. Thanks for starting another one because I was starting to get worried that not enough people recognized the incredible awesomeness that is Nick Saban. How the world survived before him is beyond me.

Like I said before, you would think LSU fans would worship the guy because he took you guys from Miss State level to champions, but no, just more and more tears.

Michigan state was shite when he got there and on probation. he guided them to their first ten win season in 35 years.
LSU had 8 losing seasons in the previous 11 years when he got there and had won a nartional title since 1958.
Alabama had 4 500 or below seasons in 6 years when he arrived.

Wrong... They were on an uptick the year prior to his arrival when the sanctions were lifted. They were historically good.

I say this when someone mentions LSU in this sentence.
It's not easy to win at any school in Division 1, especially in the SEC. It's not easy recruiting in this conference either. I don't get why some people think it's so easy to win. It's not, you have to work hard. You can't just sit back in your couch, light up a cigar and wait for all the best players to sign at your school.

I don't think Saban is near the villain that many portray him as. He felt he'd done all he could at LSU and wanted to try his hand at something else -- the next logical step. It didn't work out as he wanted, he wished to go back to coaching in college in the SEC, and Alabama was the job available. I'm sure in retrospect he probably would have just stayed at LSU, but I think the fact that he left and then came back to another school that LSU has to play left them feeling slighted. I understand that, but I don't think it's entirely fair to Saban.

If that is the case, then i would have to say he has never been really tested. I will give him credit for turning around the Bama team when he came in * Parole Tide. Bear Bryant, Who IMHO really was a great coach mabey the best on the college football level, unlike Saban has legendary status at 2 major University football programs. Each program he helped build from ground up.
