No one brags about their title game appearances… they do about their Final Four appearances though.
This isn’t hard.
This isn’t hard.

No, I want another national title. Arkansas would have 7 Final Fours at that point. Who gives a shite about another one the next season if you have a shot to win it all.

But you didn’t win it all in either scenario. That’s the point.

So in the CFP era of football, you’d rather lose in the semifinals two years in a row than to actually play for a national title.
I believe you’re the idiot here.
Making the final game is every teams goal. Saying otherwise is straight up being dumb.

Hard to pass up a chance to make someone look like an even bigger idiot.

Yes absolutely. If in neither scenario I’m winning the National Title, give me two deep playoff runs over just one anytime. Anyone who’s not an idiot would choose that.

But you PLAY FOR A TITLE in one scenario, which is the goal.
I’ve seen my team make 3 Final Fours. 2 were more important than the other because they played for the title and won a game in the Final Four.

You’re right beside Tweedle-Dee as well…
You’d be an idiot, or a fan of a program with limited historical accomplishments…to pass up an opportunity to win a National Championship in basketball.
Who gives a rip about an extra final four appearance? Especially at the cost of playing for a title.

You need to ask CBS why they don’t market “The Road to the Title Game” rather than “The Road to the Final Four.”
Either they are missing the mark on what fans are interested in, or you’re on an island by yourself about what’s most valued.
The goal is not getting to the Title Game. It’s winning the Title.
If you aren’t winning it either way, two seasons with a deep run (Final Four) are always better than one. Anyone with a brain will agree.

Tell that to the universal scoring format of the biggest sports gambling event in the world.

CBS marketing whatever means dick to me.
If the basketball Gods asked you, “Hey dumbass, would you like to make it to the title game this year in exchange for not making the tournament next year?”
Not knowing any outcomes, you’re trying to tell everyone you’d decline that offer?
Any person with 1/4 of brain function would always want to play for a title instead of NOT playing for one.
Lol, you’re an absolute idiot.

Okay well this isn’t a casino. We’re evaluating postseason success of basketball programs.
Making a title game and losing in it should not be worth two separate Final Fours.
Making a title game and losing in it should not be worth 32 individual seasons of making the NCAA Tournament.
A National Title is highly valuable, but should a team that’s never made the Tournament ever in their history make a National Title Run in one single season… should that be weighted the same as a program who’s made the Tournament 64 seasons in a row?
At some point, logic has to be used.

I don't fully agree with your reasoning.
I'm going to side with Hawgeye on this one. I would much rather have a final four winner and final loser. Has more prestige than a double final four loser.

I mean sure, that's fine, but use that same logic to determine that there is a middle ground.
ETA: Actually, I don't think that's fine. If I'm a fan of a school, give me one national championship over losing in the first round of the tournament 64 straight years, please. That would be absolute misery.
I get your argument for valuing the Final Four higher.
But you're still giving the same amount of additional points for playing in the national championship game as you are for playing in the Elite 8. That's not very logical. Winning a final 4 game is WAY HARDER than winning a Sweet 16 game probably 95% of the time.
It's clear to me that a runner-up should receive 13.67 points. Repeating, of course.

Yep. Before Billy Gillespie, Mark Turgeon, Billy Kennedy, and Buzz Williams, Texas A&M basketball program's only notable coach/leader was Shelby Metcalf, who led it from 1963 until 1990. But in those 26 years he managed to get into the NCAA only 6 times. And that was considered decent. Worse was the 14 years of "dark ages" from 1990 until the arrival of Billy Gillespie in 2004.
Now a days, Aggies fans expect to go Dancing pretty much every year or certainly every other year. The expectations bar has certainly been raised in College Station.
The women's team did very well too since mid-2000s, actually winning one national title. But I fear they should have eased Gary Blair into retirement a couple years early and brought in his assistant Vic Schaefer who instead ended up in Austin after a stint at Miss St-- Vic is an Aggie grad and was the main assistant of Blair.
