The particular player will only be in the game for a few seasons then they "graduate." In Madden the players can last for years. $600 is fair. If they don't sign, the game will go on without them.

You really believe that college football is in it’s current state because of the Supreme Court?

I honestly have no idea why they did this.

In the last few seasons they just had anonymous players then the community would make roster files you'd import.

It worked fine.

Wonder why the pro players are getting more? Seriously?

First off, count the number of players

Second, these little flickers aren't pros

Third, you're a dumbass if this is confusing for you

That isn't what they asked. They asked why they aren't getting a residual.

For the purposes of this game, they are. They're paid for their name (and visual likeness) in the game.

First off, count the number of players

This is the only thing that matters, likely for the logistics of it. For NFL players, they can lump sum the revenue to one place with a breakdown, and the NFLPA will distribute to individuals. For CFB, they don't want to send 130+ checks every quarter.

Which means, CFB players will probably end up with a banking institution in the next year or so to manage this stuff.

And yes, in 2024, almost all residuals still come in the form of a paper check.

It’s free money! No work to do. Just say yes and you get $600. Don’t even have to pose for pictures.

Easy call.

Yeah if most of these players tried to play hardball I think EA would say "ok, well we're just going to use Dohnny Fakename instead of you, bye"

There are probably 20 players with room to negotiate very much here.

Hence, I wanted to start a discussion if NCAA will eventually pay out more.

I've saw it mentioned in an article somewhere or another that they will reevaluate the total payout going forward. So if it's a smash hit, I expect that $600 to go up. But with 11,000 players to pay, it's only going to go so high. EA sports isn't giving New Mexico State's backup kicker a $10,000 check.

Maybe the NCAA could rate the players on a rating system after learning which teams are more often to be picked to played w/in the game. Like Texas for example. If Texas is one of tbe most predominantly used teams then the players could receive higher pay. All teams within that tier of usage would get elevated pay.

The Western Kentucky's that are never used get the minimum tier- 600 and a copy of the video game.

I really hope EA tells them all to frick off. The schools that sign on are used in the game. That means we get stadiums, songs, etc. Make all the players grey-skinned, red-eyed mutants and just use numbers. frick the player names. After a few years of Dynasty mode you don't have any original players anyway. These dudes are seriously underestimating the community. It will take about 3 days for the hardcore sim guys to get over not having actual players and all of these dudes get nothing.

Been seeing some players have opted in, and will get $600 and a free copy of the game. Now, I’m reading, some teams might not opt in (reject the initial offer) to drive up the offer.

$600 is a fair amount, IMO, and EA is not going to go up much from there.

134 teams x 120 players per team x $600 = $9.6 million.

I think EAsports made $1.8 billion from just Fifa 2023.

Soccer is a worldwide sport with the game having global appeal. FIFA 2023 sold 10 million+ copies.

College Football is an American only sport and even more regional than NFL football. NCAA 2014 sold a little over a million copies.

It would be difficult to make a game if a significant portion of the game's budget had to go towards paying 16,000 players.

It will be weird to see a mishmash of real faces (opt ins) and generic ones (opt outs) in the game.

Idk about that. The NCAA game and madden game were always very different.

It'll likely be built on the Madden game engine (which is awful).
Does anyone remember 989 Sports’ offering, NCAA Gamebreaker ‘[99], for PlayStation?

That was easily the best, far and away better than EA Sports, when it came to plycalling, realistic player movements, tackling, realistic stadium settings, and Keith Jackson’s voice.

They have used the same engine for at least the last 20 years or so. The "engine" is just the framework, it doesn't (necessarily) mean the same gameplay. Games like Cities Skylines and Subnautica share the same engine but are vastly different games. A couple old articles I found:

quote:

NCAA Football 2002

NCAA football game, based on the Madden engine. Instead of the cheerleaders that you'll see in Madden NFL 2002, NCAA 2002 has school-specific mascots that will be seen on the sidelines and during big play celebrations. The game has a deep Dynasty Mode that supports up to 12 players at one time. Seniors will leave, you can recruit fictional players out of high school and you can save Seniors and import into your franchise mode in Madden NFL 2002. Additionally, there are almost 120 different playbooks that are loosely based on the styles of the real college teams. Use Campus Cards to unlock special teams, which include the ability to play as team mascots, the 1991-2001 All-American, and 15 All-Time teams.

quote:

NCAA FOOTBALL 14 (2014)

This year’s title brought two major new features with the introduction of physics-based movement and tackling via the Infinity Engine and the introduction of Ultimate Team. By bringing over the revolutionary physics engine powering the Madden NFL franchise the college game reached new heights of realism, and Ultimate Team set out to finally answer the question of what happens when you put some of the greatest college football players of all time together on one squad.

That being said, I don't think any of us would be surprised to see EA to just copy/paste the gameplay this time around instead of tuning it to the college game just so they can make an easy buck.

I'm assuming they'll still allow user-created mods which includes roster updates like they did with the last few NCAA's.

So your NIL will be in that game regardless.....so passing up the $600 would be incredibly stupid. EA holds all of the cards as long as they allow modded rosters.

Nah. EA holds all of the cards.

Players can piss and moan about NIL to play IRL.

EA will replace Ohio state with “THE midwestern Ohio state university” and Ohio state comes out behind in that exchange.
