There’s no need for Alabama’s portal to be open 3 times in 4 months when they didn’t even fire their coach.

This is really the issue. The "special portal" for a select team or two with unlimited bidding on the roster is a problem. And when you throw in tampering without recourse, it can explode.

At this point, I honestly hope we've said "frick it" and pull an FSU/Texas aby tampering with a couple of guys on Michigan's roster in case Harbaugh jumps to the NFL this weekend.

Most of us are shocked that the rules could ever reach a place where CFB holds auctions for rosters with no ability for them to add players.

Maybe your coach should have been more upfront about his intentions before seasons end and more upfront with all the recruits bama just signed. If they had known, your roster wouldnt be dealing with this much attrition because you would have signed kids that were cool with the coach leaving.

That would be possible but, frick dude. That’s the best strategy we’re left with? A coach has to know he’s going to retire in January, then announce it early in the middle of a playoff push with Auburn and Georgia on the horizon?

The portal opened like December 2, announce it then.

Have conversations with each player and find out where they stand.

When you know someone is leaving, look for someone to replace him.

That's what every staff does anyway in exit interviews.

I mean the rule sucks but you have to figure out how to navigate the period with as little damage as possible.

This is the first coaching change in the portal era for Bama and obviously it is opening some people’s eyes on how punitive it can be.

This is why Alabama fans look so fricking stupid.

When it was happening to LSU during their last coaching change, all we heard from Alabama fans was that LSU just had a bunch of quitters on their team, and we were just getting what we deserved.

Here's the thing, all Alabama fans had to do was look at what happening to LSU and realize it could happen to any team now in the NIL/Portal era. And with a 70 year old coach, that would be sooner for Alabama rather than later.

But you couldn't. You're too stupid. All you could do was point and laugh. Now it's happening to you.

So I say to you, Alabama...

And South Alabama and Buffalo, but I don't see many people in the SEC clamoring for any players from those 4 teams so we all know your post was disingenuous af lol

Saban retiring in the transfer portal era could not have been more perfect timing to illustrate what people have been arguing for quite some time - there is nothing inherently special or advantageous to Bama outside of having a legend at coach.

I say that as a compliment as well, because they had to put the work in as a program to become so dominant, as it should be.

But I'd be lying if I didn't tell you I am relishing in the fans who thought it was because "We're DAMN BAMA!" having their worldview completely shattered into a million pieces overnight.

Yea - Ala-DAMN-Bama sucked arse for many a year between 1980-2007 w/ a small respite for Gene Stallings in that long window.

My only problem with the current state of the transfer rule is that the portal is open only for teams who have a coaching change so that a team can lose players but has very little options to simultaneously fill those positions. I'm sure this loophole/issue will be corrected in the near future going forward.

I don't see it as a loop hole.

This is a consequence of a coaching change. Thqt should make schools consider how much they want a new change.

Does it suck because your coach retired instead of getting fired? yeah. But that shouldn't be a reason to implement new rules seperating the two.

Saban fricked y'all by retiring when he did, not the rules.

Bama fans have always lived a life of hypocrisy that they wouldn’t recognize it among themselves.

They tired to tamper with LSU's Boutte and he never got in the portal

Were your roster issues not a result of a checked out coach making shite decisions, a roster genuinely known for quitting, and the said firing of the coach?

Poisonous situations have occurred in programs for ever. Blowing up the staff and roster has always happened. Players not gelling with the new coach and leaving in bulk has always happened.

What Alabama is going through is not comparable to those situations, at all. Have all the fun you’d like. But your rationale in doing so seems dumb as hell.

that's exactly right. Saban did this to Bama.

Maybe it does and maybe it doesn't help keep the high school recruiting class together, but it seems like it will hurt more than help if they lose some of their early enrollees.

Probably see ADs being a little more diligent w/ communications w/ coaches if they are going to retire or thinking about it - like hey, if you are thinking about retiring, how about letting me know by November 1st - gives the AD time to compete for best coaches, try to hang onto recruiting class and mitigate the transfer portal.

I really do hope we see attrition in the early enrolles as well - but probably won't - they will tough it out for a year and re-evaluate. sucks for them.

Nobody is complaining about the goddamn portal. We're complaining about a portal that can be open for only one team and allow 130 teams to bid on the entire roster. Some of you are really stupid.

Whose fault is this? If Saban stays a bit longer it’s closed.
