I think we’re starting to see a trend in the portal for Freeze
First year we needed bodies and he packed the class full of guys from anywhere.
This time around the roster is less depleted so Freeze went all in on high caliber HS guys and supplemented it with P5 contributors
Maybe another year of prioritizing HS talent versus upper tier/elite P5 starters before the upper tier P5 starters and plugging needs is the only use for the portal.

I think most of us are coming to that point.
Any news on Percy Lewis, thought we would have heard something by now. That is probably the most immediate piece.

I'm okay with it. It seems as though this rebuild is going to take a bit longer than any of us want it to. At least White will have some premium receivers to throw to and he has the arm for it.

Well thats not good news on Lewis, guess they want to make sure that new QB is protected on the blind side.
Pink said he used to COME IN on passing plays, and eventually started whole games. Can you imagine, a guy six foot eight and 350 lbs is brought in on pass blocking plays, must be quite agile.

Not great. I appreciate that our staff seems to be looking for value in the portal, but if they're going to do that they need to bring in twice as many dudes for visits. By now we know we will miss a lot if we aren't going to make crazy offers, so turn it into a numbers game. If you need 10, bring in 30 knowing that 20 will find an inflated offer somewhere else.

I think last year got help from the hype. This year he either got just beat out or focused so much on HS kids that he missed the best options we had a shot at in the portal.
This year doesnt look to be any better with the bodies we are bringing in so far.

I still see the portal as a more advanced version of Juco with kids looking for money mixed in. Thorne looked good on paper. We just didn't get a good return on the investment.
I think the Portal will eventually get rules to stop all the hopping and calm it down into being useful as a place to fill in holes like Juco was. Right now it's just a place to build a team for next year by renting players. Kiffin and Prime have it mastered.

I believe he will get there, he has to come to terms with what it's about and that he can use his relationship building skills that he is so strongly tied to. He admitted he is learning on the fly right now. He thought he had time for these guys to visit and then work a relationship of some kind.
These guys are making deals fast and you need to show them the love of the dollar on first go around. Build your relationship after and trust the stats and film they already have.
I will say I am hopeful he will adjust and learn to portal better.
