Hilarious! I just love all the Sanders fan boys telling me, and everyone else, just what he would do, based on his less than two years of coaching at a D-2 school.

Let me, let you in on a little secret. When an organization is prepared to pay the kind of money that major, D1 programs typically pay, they do not just throw that money out there based on little, to no evidence of ROI. Known vs. unknown, and in Sanders case, the unknowns are massive. If Sanders were to get a job as an HC at a D-1 school, it would 1oo% be for pure publicity, because their isn't anything else to really go on. Pulling a rabbit out of hat on signing day does not make for a reason to throw multi-millions of dollars at someone with less than 2 years of experience.

Deion is far from a slam dunk but none of the available guys are. In a world where we are trying to compete/recruit against Nick Saban and Kirby Smart he has the most potential to bring in players which is 90% of the college game these days.

Lane would be the other option.

Aranda the third though I think he'd struggle here without an exceptional OC hire.

If we can't get one of those three might as well just save our money and keep sucking with Harsin until Saban leaves.

You wrote all that when we just gave some Idaho slap dick a huge contract less than two years ago like he was some big time proven coach. He was clearly overseeing a program in a slow decline from his predecessors in the Mountain West.

I agree on all fronts. This is a business first. We can't have a guy who hides in his office and just wants to football. I'd rather just keep Harsin than hire another bump on a log. Firing Gus/Harsin and getting back with a Jimbo type hire is just wasting our time.

Sanders would work his butt off to make sure he is successful at coaching. He already has his several NFL coaches on his staff volunteering their time to help his team. You don't see coaches lining up for Gus or Harsin like that.

Would not happen at Auburn. If you've ever listened to Deion or any of his assistants talk they are ALL about trying to build up the HBCU game.

You think those same NFL assistants would be lining up to volunteer their time at the pressure cooker of Auburn? No. The stress level of P5 football compared to SWAC football isn't even comparable. And like you said, most of those guys already have money. Why add unnecessary stress to their lives.

It's a passion project for Deion and those guys to build something special on the HBCU level and a chance for him to get to coach his kids. His kids aren't seeing the field in the SEC.

Sanders and it's not even close. If people take the time to look at what he has done at Jackson St its actually impressive to turn that place around from a losing program to a winning one with a limited amount of resources.

That is a huge leap from a D2 HBCU to an SEC program.

Where he is now, Coach Prime can pull in two or three really high quality athletes using his name and then out-talent the other teams on his level; in P5 programs you can't succeed with a couple of 5 stars and the rest of the class made up of average guys.

If you were a top-level football player and had offers from Saban at Bama (dynasty, puts kids in the league), Kirby at UGA (appear to be poised to compete for titles over the next 3-5 years), and Auburn with Coach Prime, who hasn't won anything, hasn't put guys in the league, but he's famous and flashy...who are you realistically picking?

What’s hilarious is how obviously clueless you are. You really should look at what Deion Sanders has done at Jackson State.

He has SIGNIFICANTLY changed that program and in a very short amount of time. He’s greatly improved their recruiting and changed the mindset of the players in that program.

Its not about getting Travis Hunter, but stop selling what Sanders has done short since you obviously have zero knowledge of what he has done at that program….whether its a small HBCU school or a SEC program, its the mentality that is needed. .

Deion Sanders knows how a championship program should be run and he could bring in a quality staff unlike Harsin, who can’t get anyone who is willing to work for him that didn’t have a Idaho address or an Auburn degree.

Sanders has a very infectious energy that people want to be around….coaches want to coach with him, and players want to play for coaches like that. Its a risk, but any coach honestly will be a risk at this point and he has a lot of upside.

The unnecessary assumption you’re making is if he can pull a coupla recruits at JS that he will only pull in a couple here. Obviously Auburn has 100 fold the prestige/ exposure/ and resources to convince more than a couple recruits to come.

Even Harsin can reel in 10 quality players and he doesn’t even try and his reputation is pathetic. Deion will outdo Harsin in half a recruiting cycle.

I've stated it before, and I'll do it again. Harsin was not the first choice, or the second. I am confident he was way down the list, but the best we could get. There is a major issue with our reputation concerning coaches right now. Justified or not. Tubs and Jetgate, Chizik wins a natty then fired two years later, Gus given a massive extension and pay raise then fired a couple of years later.

By that line of thinking who in the world would choose Harsin or many of the other names being thrown out?

I don't understand dudes who are ride or die Freeze

He's a complete goober, a reckless human being, and his results are merely above average. He's not at the top of other lists - I don't understand why the Auburn-Freeze connection persists since he's never coached here. His candidacy seems like a holdover from a Gus era we need to move on from.

I haven't really seen anyone 100% on Freeze. We can't deny some of our big money people are though, which puts him on the list.

Almost everything you wrote in your post, is based off of less than two years of coaching. All of the things you say he will do, is based off of an extremely small period of time. Your feelings and emotions are over ruling logic and reason. A jump to somewhere like the Sun Belt would be massive, but we are talking about a school with Alabama/Saban, UGA/Kirby, A&M/Jimbo, and OM/Kiffin on the schedule every damn year. What you are suggesting is the equivalent of some dude who just started boxing, and throwing him in the ring with Ali one week, Frazier, Foreman, then Tyson.

You, and others keep wanting to compare what he'd do, against Harsin while missing the big picture of who he would going against. Right now, due to his fame mostly, he's a big fish in a very small pond, and people want to throw him in the damn ocean with Jaws.

You talk about risk like it's all the same, when in reality there are many levels. I like my chances against getting struck by lightening on a clear, sunny day but that all changes if a thunderstorm pops up and I'm standing in the middle of a cow pasture!

Let's face the facts for a second. Sanders has pulled a couple of coveted recruits and he's won a few ball games at a place that hasn't been historically good. But, if you look a little closer, you will find that those accomplishments are extremely brief. He isn't exactly facing the best coaching staffs in football for one thing, and a couple of recruits don't exactly scream consistency. Going back to my boxing analogy, Buster Douglas has a great fight once, and beat Tyson. What did he do after that?

Proven winner before he got to Nebraska

You serious Clark?

Frost had two total seasons as a HC before being hired at Nebraska. Half of those years he finished with a losing record.

He was 19-7 in two seasons.

For comparison, Harsin was 76-24 when hired.

One of these was a proven winner, the other was not. Harsin was about as sure fire winner as there was. Boise has crumbled since he left.

Harsin is clearly out of his depth here and he should not see the end of the season…

But that’s irrelevant to your comment. Frost simply was NOT a proven winner when hired at Nebraska. He had just one good season.

I did not know a potential HC has to have coached at Auburn.
Have you met Freeze personally and what do you have for back up to support your opinions of the man or just internet fodder?
We already have a national black sheep in the Auburn family. One that we took a chance on before anyone else would touch him. I see that was a bad choice for Aubie in basketball.
Hugh Freeze is on a mission to clear his name, build a successful program at a school he can win big at. He will be given an opportunity soon at a big school.
He senses that school is Auburn and his bags have been packed since February. Whether he gets the call or not only time will tell and non of us here know.
The good book teaches redemption, forgiveness. I am glad Aubie believes in it or Coach Pearl would not be here. Hopefully Aubie can catch lightning in a bottle twice.

Pearl vs Freeze's situation are a little different... Pearl was just cookin' up some good ol' bbq for future players and their families. Freeze was hiring prostitutes for young men under the age of 22 so that they would come to his school. little different don't you think?
