So Gus isn't going to screw this up for us is he?

I saw where he said Franklin was getting a lot of 1st team reps during the bye week.

He's not going to go back to overthinking things is he? I know nobody here actually knows but I just want reassurance that Gus knows better.

If we cant run wit just Pettway I would not be shocked if Gus brought in JF3 for some running plays at QB. I cant decide if it is a good idea or not.

I'd take this as he wants Franklin to get more reps in case White does get hurt. Not a better time during the season to do that then the bye week. Let's put our Jump To Conclusions mats away for once.

I'm not worried about that as much as his comment that the off week gave him time to come up with some "wrinkles."

frick Gus's wrinkles.

He can only screw this up if he starts to dabble in the play calling again. Let that be up to Rhett and Herb and I think it will beer okay.

But, if he goes to them and started telling them what to do, I'll begin to worry.

Having the speed of JF3 + Stanton Truitt for some RO work wouldn't be a bad change of pace for a series or two sprinkled in.

Plus, it forces Arkansas to focus a bunch of practice time preparing for that scheme

I mentioned this in the KJ injury post, but I'll say it again here.

I don't think the article necessarily said he was playing QB with the 1's. If KJ is out, I wouldn't be surprised to see JFIII come in for the wild cat role - purely to run, no option.

If that's the case, I don't think that screws up the timing at all since the team is used to this with KJ.

Because of the yards Arkansas gives up, I won't be surprised to see ALL the running plays - sweeps, blasts, counters, draws, off tackles, pitches, reverses, slants, veers, the woody, the annexation of puerto rico, and more.

Arkansas has been so awful vs run threat qbs this year that it wouldn't surprise me to see Franklin get some PT.

I'd say it's pretty likely he sees some snaps. Possibly early on. If those go well, he'll get a few more.

If Gus manages to lose this game, which we should be very well positioned to win and which is crucial to turning this season into a positive, it'll be a very big hit to the collective confidence that he's right for the job.

Things happen, so if we throw a pick six to lose it or Arky balls out - that's not what I'm talking about. But weird personnel decisions, team coming out flat, stuff like that.

I don't want to elevate this too much, but this is just the type of game he has to win if he's going to keep growing into the job and winning the fanbase back.

Good post, I agree completely. I like Gus and I hate the line of thinking around football now that if your coach starts losing get rid of him, especially when he's youngish as compared to his peers like Gus. Sticking with a coach and letting him grow into the job like you said is how you end up with Joe Paterno, Bobby Bowden, Frank Beamer stability.

Please keep the 3rd the 2nd and not the 1st until the 4th please

Pressed wrinkles n goofy QB play cost the Clemson game and that one win would have made a major difference. Imagine no hot seat roulette and being much further up the top twenty. Gus, please let the coordinators sink, or swim, and even fly away.

Only at Auburn this season would this be news. Letting the back-up snag first team reps in a bye week is SOP.
