I agree with you... People will call you retarded and I'll be called retarded also... I won't read through all of the comments, but I'm sure you're getting a lot of negative input. I'll gladly come back and eat crow if Sean white turns out to be an above average qb with us.. Just don't see it happening, imo.

It's like Bizzaro Barner Board.

But and it is just my opinion, we will always be a mediocre team with that "style" of quarterback with Gus at the control. He needs what he has done well with. Not a souped up Chris Todd who by the way took us to a wonderful 8-5 season.

I find it amusing we are judging Sean White on his first game as a college QB. Under the circumstances he did remarkably well. He did not panic, stepped up in the pocket, kept his eyes downfield, hit his check downs, and was not afraid to take off and take a hit. He made one mistake, and it was a situation he shouldn't of even been in. The play calling by Gus was under whelming.
I agree that a Gus Malzahn offense seems to perform better with a true duel threat QB. The problem is you are not going to have a Nick Marshall or Cam Newton every damn year. As a coach Gus needs to adjust to what is a available to him. Starting by adjusting his shitty basic WR route tree's, and getting rid of his triple fake reverses in the back field.
Sean is a gun slinger and has the poise to be deadly accurate. He also has a winner's mentality..you can see it on his face when he makes a mistake. Let's give the kid some time..with the right tools around him he could be really good in the future. Also was I the only one that thought our O-line did not block very well? Certain times they looked great, and other times they looked awful..it was no real in between.

I think Joey just drug this thread behind the barn and put a bullet behind its ear.

Got to love Auburn fans. They say "Auburn will suck this year" and if they are right they can say "I told you" and if they are wrong they get to say "Auburn is the best team ever."

Stop acting like we need a defense and O line to do their job to win games. All about the QB

The technical term for this species is "negabarner".

quote:We were 38 of 40 (95%, 5th in FBS) in redzone opportunities in '09. 29 TDs and 9-9 on FGs.
We moved the ball in 2009, but struggled score.
Our problem that year was getting in the red zone - only 2.7 opportunities per game for the entire season. But we made up for it on big plays - we scored 20 times (7 rushing, 13 passing) on plays >20 yards.
The problem as I see it is that Gustav expected JJ to be capable of running a Cam-type offense, not a Todd-type offense. Turns out he can't do either, so we've entered Whitopia for the rest of the season.
If Gus/Rhett can re-tool the offense on the fly over the next couple of weeks to better serve the talent we have under center currently, we can salvage something from this fiasco.
If not, it's 2012 all over again.

I just can't comprehend why more people don't understand that the reason our QBs can't throw without someone in their face or the fact that we never seem to be able to get into a rhythm running the ball is solely due to the OL. Couple that with the DL getting absolutely no pressure on opposing QBs resulting in long time consuming drives and you get a season that looks like this one. The only coaching changes that need to be made are Grimes and Garner.

I disagree on Grimes. But coming around on Garner, no sacks is embarrassing.

But, he is no what we need. Gus can not build a passing program. It is just not his deal. His offensive style is predicated on a rushing attack and with that, a QB that can and will run the ball at anytime. I made this same statement in the offseason and I stand by it.
Though Sean made a couple of big runs yesterday (yes I was loving it), he is no real running threat and when the defenses start to scheme for that, he will not be able to do so.
Let me remind you that at the beginning of 2013, up through I'd say the 3rd quarter of the LSU game we lost, we weren't fully utilizing the QB keep on the zone read with Marshall. We had a leash on him and when we let him be a primary running threat, we went undefeated up until FSU.
Sean proved he has wheels so hopefully we're capable of emphasizing the QB run. Nick as it turned out was a natural at it, I'm not sure Sean is or isn't, but he has the physical tools to at least create some noise there so hopefully that's one area of emphasis in practices moving forward.
ETA: I just doublechecked to verify. Marshall averaged 37 yards a game up to and including LSU, and 102 ypg thereafter in 2013. Coaches need to "wake up" again this year like in 2013, and find a way to make it a key part of our attack.

Gus' playcalling needs to improve. It's like from 2009 to 2015, he morphed from Chip Kelly to Hugh Nall

MSU was regularly blitzing 7 guys against an OL with C/RG/LG who didn't start in 2014. We are calling double play action passes on 3n20 with huge blitz. That is a playcall error
Outside the MSU game though, we have only given up like 1-2 sacks all year. Our OL is going through growing pains but they haven't been awful. Our
