I think what Lanier is saying is to be elite this offense needs a running threat at Qb. I don't think he is saying we can't be good with White at Qb. I'm inclined to agree with him but I want to see a little more before I make up my mind one way or the other.

yea, pretty much this. I am not talking about being 9-3 in the future, Im talking about being 2013 good. I dont really base any of my judgements on 2010 because we had Newton and that is no fair comparison for anyone. But to believe we can not get another player like Nick Marshall is just short sighted. We can. They are out there.

I fully understand that it was Sean's first action and I said numerous time that he did great. He got some bad breaks and a few very good ones. But in the end, he is serviceable. But with the way Gus runs his offense and calls plays, i dont see a QB with that style of play taking us to the promise land.

Lanier, not only a fisherman among men, but now a teacher of men. BRB while I get my waders on, the shite is getting pretty deep in here...

I think most are saying the same thing in this thread from a different perspective. You think Gus needs a qb to fit his play calling while others think he needs to adapt his play calling to the personnel.

We all agree that White doesn't fit as well into the scheme we ran the last few seasons.

Pretty much this. If Gus doesn't adapt his play calling and be less predictable (particularly in the types of passing routes we run) then of course we will require a great running QB to be successful, because what Gus is doing right now gives a passing QB no chance at all.

And before Cam there was Chris Todd (not a read option qb). KF and Clint were terrible all the way around, then came Marshall. So outside of those two, you had a serviceable qb and some inept ones. The read option is part of his system but he is smart enough to recognize it as a strength or weakness. Bottom line is no one expected JJ to be putrid, so we are gonna have to adapt on the fly. Personally I like our chances with white vs a Mosley type. If that's what we have I would be on the ledge too. And I'm not trying to be super positive, but I'm also trying to reign in those of you who are ready to burn the program down because White isn't what you have in mind as an elite qb for the system. Give the guy a chance

I go and watch the Tennessee game from 2009 and can't help but wonder where that offense went.

I would love to be wrong about Gus. I think he can win 8-9 games with a Sean White, but not a title. I'm not ready to burn the program down or fire Gus, but I do think he's made some mistakes this year. The play calling has also been bad. I don't care if Sean is playing in his first game or not, he has to trust him to make throws downfield.

I don't think anyone is looking for a championship anymore this season. It would be great to salvage it and win 8-9 and a bowl game.

eta: can this team turn it around will be the question. Right now we will be lucky to win 5-6

Saturday against SJSU will tell us a lot about where this team is heading imo... similar to how Jax St told us we were a shitshow. will we build on yesterday and improve... handle business?... or will it be a 4 quarter war?

I'm slightly optimistic we will continue to improve.

If we can pass block and he has a defense getting him the ball like last night he can.

Na, I'm definitely not looking for a championship or 8-9 wins at this point. I just hope we can win 6.

I'm talking about the future. This season is a dud either way. Gus just doesn't need to lose the team now.

Look man, I like you, but this is the stupidest thing I've ever read in my life and I will beat the dog piss out of you right now.

A) Chris Todd and Cam Newton set single season passing records at Auburn.

B) Sean White showed he can run, and do it better than JJ. White had 62 yards at one point before our OL let him get sacked multiple times. He had a long of 31 and it was a hell of a lot prettier than JJ bumbling down the field against LSU

C) this is the most important point. Sean White is a WINNER. He is a good QB. It doesn't matter what "style" a QB is, when you find one that's a winner, a leader, and just a good QB, you fricking play him. Would you rather have Frazier just because he "fits" the offense that we saw Marshall run better than White does.

If you were bright enough to look past the stats, you would see that this one very thing you said makes my argument. Maybe when your head clears, you will get it

Those two QB's and their success makes my point.

But I am done with this. Its really not worth it at this point. Some of you are never going to look past tomorrow to understand what is being said

Not reading all of this, but Sean gives us the best opportunity to win now. We can not make a mid season trade. SW >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>JJ

Big difference between 2009 and our current roster is that we actually have a ton of talent all over the field now. 2009 the NFL level talent was few and far between. Put Todd's stats with the D we saw last night and we're fighting for a playoff spot. But SW is worlds better than Todd anyway.

Stick to fishing and cooking outside the stadium, old man.
