I am going to say this and then leave you guys alone. Sean is not what we need.

i was happy to see him play well last night and loved his fight. It inspired me to stand up and yell at times. You have to love a kid like that. From the moment he ran out of the tunnel, he was pumped up and that is not something we have ever seen in JJ.

But, he is no what we need. Gus can not build a passing program. It is just not his deal. His offensive style is predicated on a rushing attack and with that, a QB that can and will run the ball at anytime. I made this same statement in the offseason and I stand by it.

Though Sean made a couple of big runs yesterday (yes I was loving it), he is no real running threat and when the defenses start to scheme for that, he will not be able to do so.

Until we get a QB on campus that is a pure athlete and can take off with the ball at amy time, we will not be very strong on offense. Gus is trying to "prove everyone wrong" right now because of the failure of JJ after he pumped him up so much. He looks like a fool right now to everyone and that has him on defense. This is a issue we saw with Gus before. His ego is huge and that is hurting his play calling.

But, until another Nick Marshall/Dak Prescot/Cardell Jones type guys shows up on the plains, our offense will struggle

Gus didn't let Sean White actually throw. Wasn't throwing deep all game and it was killing us.

Sean White doesn't need to be an elite runner, the fact he was getting 5-10 yards occasionally is all we need. When someone schemes for that, it opens up the passing game.

This is all on Gus, his playcalling is awful.

Why? His reputation and history show him adapting to his qb. For some reason he hasn't done that this season.

During the 2007 season, Malzahn emerged as one of the premier offensive coordinators in the nation, as Tulsa ranked first in the nation in total yards per game, ahead of Texas Tech and Hawaii, and with a more balanced attack than both teams.[7] The Golden Hurricane also ranked 3rd in the nation in passing[8] and led their conference in scoring. Tulsa became the first team in NCAA history to have a 5,000-yard passer, a 1,000-yard rusher and three 1,000-yard receivers in a single season.[9][10]

After the regular season, Malzahn interviewed for the open position at Arkansas once Nutt resigned in November 2007.[11]

In 2008, Tulsa was again the nation's most prolific attack, leading with nearly 7,980 total yards of offense averaging 570 yards per game.[12] The Golden Hurricane were ranked 2nd in the nation in scoring behind Oklahoma, scoring over 47 points per game.[13] Tulsa not only ranked 2nd in the nation in scoring that year, but finished with the 2nd highest scoring offense in the history of major college football. The offense was also the nation's most balanced attack, ranking 5th in the nation in rushing[14] and 9th in passing.[15] The Tulsa quarterbacks finished 3rd in the nation in passing efficiency, behind only Oklahoma and Texas.[16]

I think Gus went ultra conservative with White in his first game, and his red zone playcalling was puzzling....but hopefully this will give him real game footage to see White's strengths and weaknesses to build on.

This is not the same feeling I had this time last week. I hate the loss but my guts haven't been punched out like last Saturday. I see enough positives to believe we can improve.

And I agree a dual threat is our ideal qb and we should be heavily recruiting for this, but I think White can be fine given some experience. I hate to throw this season away right now.

White may be the answer, we just don't know yet.

Cam and Nick are outliers. Cam had the best season in SEC history and Nick was the best zone read qb ever. Those are anomalies that don't walk through the door often.

White looks like a more athletic Todd with a better arm. He may be able to get the job done. Our Oline has to get better in pass protection though. Two years of zone read doesn't make for a quick easy transition to great pass protectors.

Because it is just that, his reputation. When has he done that for us? Other than the zone read, we did the same thing with Cam as we did with Nick. Cam ran the middle and Nick worked the edges. Most of our passing since Gus has been here has been opportunistic. Thats all. And anytime he has had a QB who was a passer and not a runner, we have not been very good. I understand there are other circumstances but its a fact

And this is not Tulsa and Gus's offense is not that new anymore. People are scheming for it.

The only way we will be elite is to have a elite running threat, line up and just run the ball down the field.

Things change. This is not 2007 anymore and teams have adjusted. Its not going to be tricks, its going to be power.

If every single running play in our playbook wasn't some variation of the read option we could throw just fine. Not sure why people parrot this shite.

I think you are making way to early of a call here. He showed a lot of fire and athleticism, it was one game and think your analysis is premature. Maybe you you are taking a chance so you can start a thread later letting us know you were right and link this thread. I don't know what the motivation of your thread is, but it is way premature in my opinion.

It was an overall better looking game to me, we struggled in the RZ, some because of player errors and some because of coaching error. However, he got the ball moving Between the 20's pretty good. I will hold my opinion until he gets a couple of more games.

It is no secret that Malzahn's offense goes to an elite level with an option QB, but he may get better with each game. As f me I am looking forward to seeing how this develops. Who knows, we may end up string or you may end up right and can brag about it.

Yup.

Not necessarily Sean's fault but Auburn is going nowhere with him.

You can't throw to flare routes to Kerryon all day. White was completely lost, just like JJ, when he had to look down field.

If MSU had caught the two lollipops he put right in their hands (aside from the one they did catch) this board would have been howling for Johnathan Wallace.

I truly feel bad for some of you guys.

The O under Chris Todd was outstanding. He couldn't run a lick.

Auburn has many more problems than Sean White. I thought he played pretty well last night in spite of him having to deal with a herp derp coach.

we passed on obvious passing downs and first down play calling was shite you cant get a RS freshman that has had no meaningful reps since fall camp ready to play to his potential in a week White will get better JJ was getting worse while getting all the reps and dont get me started on Redzone plays

Why do you feel the need to feel sorry for people with different opinions?

Does our life end or something if our opinion is wrong? Do you win a bag of cash for being right?

It doesn't affect my life at all to have a more positive outlook on Sean White other than some fleeting disappointment.
