Tend to agree. While Roc has shown a flash here or there, Barber was much more reliable.

I think RBs should be allowed to go early. So best of luck to him and War Eagle.

This is probably the best thing for him. Had a solid season numbers wise and next year the draft is going to be saturated with backs.

He'd most likely be behind Jovon and KJ this year. Possibly even Roc if he gets his act together. Not sure who else might be coming in.

I agree with other posters who said Barber put the team on his back a couple of games this season. He was patient last year, came back and made a difference. Hope he succeeds.

FWIW Hoke still has connections & posted this free today about Berber on AUC

quote:

He was leaning towards coming out for the last two weeks. He wanted to see if Jovon Robinson might jump, but Jovon never was. Probably not a bad idea for Peyton, as there's a decent chance his numbers were going to dwindle next season with Jovon's emergence. This might be the highest Peyton's stock is.

I'm told scouts like some things about Peyton's game, namely that he's a hard worker, tends to fall forward, etc. He's a late-round guy, but I don't think Peyton has unrealistic expectations about where he'll be drafted.

The semi-troubling issue and one key reason Peyton made the decision he made was for some reason, Auburn drug their feet when Peyton requested Auburn send off for a draft grade. I believe there's a limit on the number of players a college can request draft grades for each year (maybe not), but regardless, either you tell Peyton you hit your limit or you request a grade for him as he asked. Peyton and his family very much felt like Auburn was playing games by not giving him a clear answer on whether or not they'd request a draft grade. They almost felt like Auburn was stringing them along hoping it would get late in the game and he'd almost have no choice but to return.

Whether it's an honest lack of communication or what, hearing those things are troubling. There's no reason for Peyton or his family to feel like they aren't getting a clear answer on something so simple, and then that factors into his decision to leave. But that's definitely what happened from their perspective, no question about that.

And when some were not happy on AUV he posted that he replied with this, The bold is what the other poster said Hoke is replying to.
quote:

No narrative. That's what happened and I figured people that live and die by Auburn information would want to know that information. Reserved until I have the facts? What I just told you are facts. That's how Peyton and the family felt about the situation, regardless of quotes in a newspaper. Everybody plays nice in public, especially when NFL teams are going to be calling your former coach and asking his opinion. The bottom line is that's how they felt and there's zero reason for them to feel confused or slighted about what Auburn is or isn't doing for them.

Disappointed that Peyton put this out there? My name is on this post, not Peyton Barber. And if you're worried about someone carrying water, don't. There's plenty of people out there carrying water, I'm not one of them.

The Ledger-Enquirer has a much better story on it with actual quotes directly from Peyton's family. Not sure what game Hoke is playing but it seems like he is trying stay relevant. From all accounts it sounds like the Barbers are perfectly happy with Auburn. They just did their research and are down to earth about Peyton's future at Auburn so have decided to go ahead and try for the NFL. I think he for sure lands as an UDFA but would love to see someone take a chance on him in the 5th or 6th round

Agreed.

It's hard to tell what RBs will do in the league. I recently looked at Mike Tolbert's stats. His senior year he only had 111 caries for 748 yards and 9 TDs. I think his stat that's most telling about his ability was in four years he had 303 touches without any fumbles. He went undrafted, but has been in the league for 8 years.

To that Hoke said

quote:

You think the father wants to tell a story of asking for a draft evaluation and not getting a clear answer from Auburn and then not receiving a draft evaluation? No, he doesn't want to tell that story. His only choice when asked about his draft evaluation is to say they didn't ask for an evaluation, or they can tell the real story. He took the high and easiest road, which is exactly what he should do.

FWIW augirl7 backed Hoke up. She is is easily tghe most consistent & reliable AU insider across all boards. They could be wrong but it's still worth noting.

My problem with that is let's just say Barber's dad did in fact for some reason tell Hoke all that. Why would then he report that when it's clear they are trying to take the high road? It's not that I am anti reporting negative things about Auburn I just struggle with the fact that Barber's family has attached their name to very positive reviews of everything and then Hoke comes around and says "but really they are pissed". Seems a shitty thing to do if they are actually disgruntled but don't want to create a scene.

Whatever the case is I imagine the root of the problem was coaching staff was shocked Barber wanted to leave already and so I am guessing they were clumsy. Again that is pure speculation. I tend to take this rumor with a pretty huge grain of salt as they didn't have to be so strong in support of the coaching staff publicly if they were actually pissed. And if they weren't shame on Hoke for airing their dirty laundry they clearly didn't want to share with the world if they are worried about affecting Barber's draft chances.

Not busting you cuz you just passing info just get sick of the "rumors" or "sources" things our beat writers throw out to cast doubt on the program for no reason. 247 has been doing that bunch recently between Sanders and Hoke. Gotta have a reason for people to pay for a subscription I guess
