He's still got two years, and other than fumbling he's been productive. It's not unheard of to fix ball security issues, so hopefully he gets a chance to redeem himself.

Yeldon had the same problem for Bama his first two years, but they stuck with him and he seemed to have it under control his last year.

This isn't much of a surprise. We have better backs that will take the spotlight next year over Barber. Gus isn't going to sit Robinson with his job on the line.

Also, Roc Thomas is a better back.

In what way has he shown that? He certainly hasn't shown he's a better overall back that barber is

Jovon better back… roc might have shown glimpses but not a better back.

Didn't Roc fumble in the Jacksonville St game at the end? Who was that?

Roc has done so very little to impress me.

Overall back? Are you kidding me? Roc Thomas is one of our most dangerous receiver threats, period. Fourth on the team in yards and first in YPR despite barely playing through long stretches of the season.

Barber is the opposite of a complete back. He's a bulldozer/grinder, thats it. He's good at punching it in from short or converting short yardage, but he otherwise possesses below-average playmaking ability and vision. From a talent standpoint, he's obviously behind the others...which is why he's testing the waters before he falls out of favor. His YPC was among the lowest in the conference.

Barber averages 4.3 yards per carry
Thomas averages 5.5 (6.1 this year)

That shows the talent difference.

Thomas is also a recieving threat and Barber wasn't.

Most years Barber never would have been more than a short yardage back, because that's the only dimension to his game.

If you asked me right now, who would I rather have running the ball? I would say Barber. That means he's the best overall Runningback to me. Is he more one dimensional? Yes but he's still better overall.

Roc is much more explosive though and can do more but I'd rather have Barber. I also think Roc has more potential.

I've never understood the infatuation with Peyton Barber. I appreciate his efforts against Jax State and Louisville but overall, Peyton left a lot to be desired when he ran the ball. He was very frustrating. I could count on him getting three yards but if he had some vision, he could've busted out more than three yards on many of his runs.

Good luck to him. He carried us in a few games early this past season.

Roc Thomas got most of his carries in garbage time against lesser opponents though. Barber did his time vs our better opponents

I'd rather us keep Roc since he has more potential, but as of now Barber is the better back in my mind

Yep. And you're not going to give roc most of the carries in any game we play. Barber can do that. Anyway, we have jovon and kerryon, Rock will see minimal time again this year probably

Barber can do what? Fall forward for 3 yards repeatedly? Roc can do that too.

I think the obvious reason is he didn't get near as many carries once Jovon got going.

That and the amount of RB's that will be in the draft next year.

Fournette, McCaffrey, Chubb, Dalvin Cook, Perine, Gallman, Royce Freeman, Devontae Booker, Drake, possibly Sony Michel. And Jovon of course. That's all I can think of off the top of my head, but that's a pretty stacked class right there.

So? 4.3 YPC is middling at best. Look at the top 20 rushers in Auburn history, that puts Barber on par with Secdrick McIntyre and slightly better than Phil Gargis. Yeah, I've never heard of them either.

The only reason Barber's YPC is even over 4 is because of lesser opponents. In the last 8 games of the season Barber only averaged 3.5 YPC. That is BAD

Get real.

Barber scored 5 TD's vs San Jose State and 4 TD's against Arkansas. The TD's against Arkansas were impressive, right? Wrong. They were runs of 1, 2, 2, and 1 yards. Anyone on the roster should be able to convert from that distance.

He had one, maybe two impressive games: Miss State and Georgia. Most of his damage was done against cupcakes, and he was more or less invisible against top competition. He scored 4 TD's and ran for 120 yards against Arkansas but it came on a whopping 37 carries for an ugly 3.24 YPC.

Wish the guy the absolute best.

I have to think, as much as I liked him, he was going to get passed by Robinson this year.
