He's hiring people he can control that won't disagree with him and that will ride the burning ship down with him.
I guess that's one way to look at it.
Another way would be that he's hiring people that won't disrupt his vision as the HEAD coach and undermine the direction he'd like to take the team. The ship could have been burning because of previous hires. If players are being pulled in different directions, that could get kind of confusing. Regardless, I'm almost positive Malzahn wants to win, he feels the heat of his seat, and has probably thought long and hard about what he needs to do to right the ship. If he fails, so be it. But at least let the man do what he feels is best, that's what AU hired him to do, not to be a pawn to popular opinion. It's his career that will get derailed, so I assure you, he has more riding on it than the fans do. At the end of next season, if his vision crashes and burns, everyone can cut their losses and know they let the situation play out without outside influence.

Maybe if DC and WM understood how the chain of command works, they wouldn't be job hoppers.
This is comical.
Didn't Gus Malzahn cry his arse out of Arkansas because big meanie Houston Nutt wouldn't defer to his every demand? Who's the job hopper here? He runs off to Tulsa, then he jumps to Auburn, then he jumps to Arkansas State when he realizes that he's got no QB and as a result he'll look like shite .
Great example bro.

Well in his defense AUCE05 tried to add Muschamp to the "job hopper" category
Not sure how taking promotions or getting fired as HC = job hopper but #RantOn

Pretty sure he was told to GTFO of Arky. Nice try, tho.

Oh, so he was so bad at "following the chain of command" that they outright told him to GTFO?
That is much better.

He may or may not be rustled but it was a pretty funny post considering the content of the OP.

At what? DC and WM are mad Gus doesn't want their input on his program? He's the boss. He can do what he wants.

This exchange I found funny considering my OP is talking about Gus taking charge and bringing in people he wants.
No big deal. Just saw some humor in it. Don't take it as me taking a side. You two can continue on.

Salma and Halle are on my GO list. If either one ever knocked on my door, I'd leave no questions asked. Thanks for upping the thread value.

I wish PM would crawl back into which ever Golden Corral he came from.
