P Marshall wrote an article that looks as if he got some straight answers.

After reading it I have to admit it made some sense, and it is apparent Gus knows he is under the gun.

Some excerpts and you can take it FWIW, but the feel of the entire article this all seems legit.

"Him or me?"

quote:

Craig is a good man. He is far too good a man to go to the head coach and try to get someone fired. It didn’t happen.

Lashlee is an equally good man. If he wanted to be gone from Auburn or had been told to find another job, he would be gone. He turned down two job offers after last season.

Lashlee and Craig are not and have not been enemies. They had disagreements. I wrote their relationship was, at times, contentious. I have been told by people I trust and respect that I overstated it. I take them at their word. Regardless, as I said previously, neither Lashlee nor any real or perceived differences he had with Craig had anything to do with Craig’s departure.

That is not speculation. That is fact.

Gus and his new hires.

quote:

After talking to some people close to the situation, here’s what I believe: Malzahn knows the coming season will be pivotal in his career. He is finished with trying to hire coaches who make a splash. He’s going to hire who he wants and who he’s comfortable with. He is determined to get back to doing things in the way that he believes got him to Auburn in the first place.

His fate does not rest on the popularity of his hiring decisions. It rests on how many games he wins.

There was a lot more in the article, but this to me gets to the heart of it. You can dislike Gus right now, but he is doing what he feels he should and his way. I can respect that and he has every right to do this.

Obviously there may be administrative issues, but it appears Malzahn is doing it his way. I personally hope he does well and understand his moves better. Now melt on for those who choose to.

Heavy coaching changes either play out very well or very badly. We'll see how it works out, but Gus is making some bold moves and he should be praised if they work out.

All this proves is how utterly paranoid and untrustworthy he is. He's not splitting atoms or guarding national security secrets with his offense. The fact that the only people he can trust to comprehend his 5-play offense is former players/disciples of himself is comical. If Tim Horton bolts who's he going to peg as his RB coach? Michael Dyer?

This is what happens when you hand the keys to your elite football program over to a weird "system genius" who lives in his own head and can't see past his own shadow.

What "bold moves" is Gus making? He is being forced into them by coaches leaving.

Yeah, maybe you make valid points, but the fact is he is the HC, and all the other filler you posted really doesn't matter at this point.

No one can blame him on hiring coach's that he is comfortable with. That is why he got Herb Hand. At the end of the day all that matters is how many games he does win. I too hope that he turns it around but if he has another subpar year he should be gone. After all, he is 2-9 in his last 11 league games. He has got to find and develop a quarterback. If he does, he will probably survive next year. I do believe that if Malzahn bombs next year there will be a serious move to get rid of JJ first.

I almost posted some stuff along those lines to him. He was a part of the rumors and issues by earlier postings. However, I am a guest of the account on the site.

I'm glad there is someone else who sees that fat sack of shite philip marhsall for what he truly is. A leech on Auburn and a representative of the good ole boy network that I can't wait til they die off.

Marshall has never written a negative piece on Auburn. Guy is so far up the ADs arse, he gets to see the good before it is digested

In my view, if Gus goes, JJ should go right along side him.

I am as familiar with Marshall as anyone and I get his stuff is usually shite. However, this had a different vibe for me. Like I said it isn't for everyone and I expect many to be skeptical, but imo it looks like this came more from Gus than AD.

I mean it won't hurt me to be wrong over this.

That seems believable as far as Craig goes. He didn't want to cause turmoil within the program or for his boss. That should help his career out IMO. Also, am I the only one that thinks he was too much of a player's coach? I know players respect him, but it just seems like several ran to him when they were in Gus's doghouse. There's a fine line between being there as a friend and being there as a disciplinary. I got the feeling he's not 100% on the discipline aspect of coaching yet.

And as far as the Malzahn hires. I hope what he is doing is giving everyone the middle finger (fans and admins) and hiring who he thinks will best position AU to win consistently. If he flames out, it needs to be on his terms of what he thinks is best and not popular opinion.

Give me examples of what you're talking about
