Malzahn gets the blame when things are shitty and no credit when things are good.

Folks that didn't want Malzahn hired in the first place are demonstrating extreme confirmation bias.

Lets not overlook how Darius James went from practice screw up to dominant runblocking LT.

You take DJ out of the equation, we aren't nearly as domiannt with AG @ LT and Xavier at OC

At the beginning of the year I didn't know what I wanted.

And I'm at max flexibility right now because I still don't know.

But I liked erotic football Saturday on the plains, I do know that.

And I want trump to win. That's all I know.

I still think that Rhett leaves this year and we need to bring in a guy with a solid pass game background. Eventually teams will respond to us shoving it down their throats, we need a better/consistent pass game/play calling.

As far as managing the program, I've always thought Gus has done pretty awesome.

-Recruiting - Consistently fills needs across board, first time to have a talented 2 deep at nearly all positions (except OT, maybe DE next year)

-Balanced focus O/D Despite being an offensive guy, it is clear from recruiting to DCs he hires that Gus has tried to build the AU defense back up to standard.

-Recognizing talented assistants Kodi and TWill have both been paying huge dividends.

-Dance moves

I think you also have to give credit to Gus for hiring Steele. That hire was pretty universally panned at the time, but has turned out great so far.

You want the same thing that everyone else wanted. You wanted to win. And when we were not winning, Gus Sucked. Once we were, he is great. And fans, expectably our fans, will use any excuse they can grab on to to justify that.

Gus is a good coach. I have always liked him. His play calling has always been puzzling at times. It was earlier this year. As for the play calling, we have made a few adjustments, just like we have every single year he has been here, after a few games to improve our offense

The biggest difference is the conservative play calling now vs early in the year. Not as much dumb plays and more solid play calling.

So, is that Rhetts idea or Gus's? We really dont know but I know from experience, shite comes from the top.

Its Gus's offense, Rhett is his puppet. Gus pulls the strings

I was extremely pissed at the beginning of the year. I'm still not sure I can ever forgive that qb rotation and how the Jeremy Johnson story played out.

That being said our defense is lights out and our offense is clicking. He has to beat UGA for me to view this season as a success.

Fans weren't in the wrong to show displeasure towards Gus as the coach. He knew something needed to change, hence giving Rhett the play calling duties. Didn't Gus even admit that he had been calling plays in an angry demeanor?

The offense is a little different now, but the biggest change I've noticed has occurred in the tempo and the order of which plays are called. We don't find ourselves in third and longs too often anymore.

Say Gus sucked this year and got fired, he still would deserve a ton of credit for the foundation he laid.

If we had a new coach, he would inherit the following players with 2+ years eligibility and played real/quality snaps this year

QB-
Sean White
RB-
Kerryon Johnson
Kam Pettway
Kam Martin
Stanton Truitt
Malik Miller
WR-
Kyle Davis
Nate Craig Myers
Eli Stove
Darius Slayton
Ryan Davis

HB/TE

Chandler Cox
Jalen Harris

DT
Derrick Brown
Dontavius Russell
Andrew Williams
**Antwuan Jackson (added due to hype)

DE

Marlon Davidson
Jeff Holland
Byron Cowart

LB
Darrell Williams
Desean Davis

CB
Carlton Davis
Javarius Davis
Jeremiah Dinson
Jamel Dean

Safety

Markell Boston

If Gus screwed the pooch and we hired someone else, that person could easily coast on what Gus has built here at Auburn.

Got to give credit to Gus, what he inherited was no where near where we are at now. He had quality talent starting, but there was very little behind them. We got lucky we didn't have any major injuries in 2013

Funny how everyone is hanging their hats on Gus not calling plays right now. Different guy, calling the plays Gus tells him to.

We just got better because we did not call stupid plays, the o Line is blocking and we are just playing better overall.

Rhett has not done anything different othe than not using the QB carousel.

We got better all over the field.

Exactly... the way the Arky game was called was Gus's frickin' wet dream, whether he was "calling" the plays or not.

And Rodney Garner.

And Travis Williams.

And Kodi Burns.

And Herb Hand.

Well... all of'em actually except for maybe McGriff? Was he a Steele hire?

Agreed. As a passionate fan, I was calling for Gus's head but with a qualifier... my position after the A&M game was that "Gus needs to go UNLESS he can get his head out of his arse and stop the QB shuffle, predictable play-calling, and whirlybirds." Because I knew and still know that if we'd settled in earlier and played like we are now, we're either 6-1 or 7-0. That's on the Head Coach. But, by gorsh, he LEARNED and adjusted.

Considering that, by adjusting, he has thus far met the expectations of my qualifier, I'm all for keeping Gus.

The Clemson game caused people to overreact because it was such a head scratching strategy to the point you would question his sanity. After that, a good bit of us said he needed to adapt and/or bring in an outside influence, some wanted Franklin at QB ( ), and some still wanted Gus gone.

The point is, most people overreact. Those that want to burn it down and start over should always be ignored, when considering recruiting and program cleanliness. Also, I have concluded a good bit of fans just don't know much about football and just talk out of their arse.
