Look, it's obvious being the HC requires so much out of you, and I think in game situations Gus was not focused on just the offense and would get stubborn in his play calling.

I think luckily he has learned he can still have influence but to let your people do their jobs. No doubt he helps with film breakdown and some of the game planning but has left it up to Rhett and Hand.

We all sometimes forget he is inexperienced as a HC but has the talent to be a good one, and just may get there. That is my hope anyway because I like him and I like our offensive philosophy overall. Yes, I will get frustrated with him but I want him to succeed wildly at Auburn.

And let's not forget how everyone was saying Herb Hand needed to go, how terrible the line was, etc. Now the O-line is playing as good as almost anyone in the conference.

I was in that group. shite I was so pissed at Gus for the Clemson game and I don't think anyone could say they were happy with that. shite started to continue into A&M. Wanted Herb fired after the A&M game after watching how they thought leaving Garrett unblocked several times was a good idea. However, they made adjustments and I'm happy. But Ill admit I overreact when we suck, hard not to when you are emotionally invested with Auburn sports.

I never wanted Gus gone, but I sure wanted lashlee gone. I will eat my share of crow on that after a game or two more. I am however consistent in wanting Jay Jacobs fired.

I never wanted Gus gone. I wanted him to recognize the talent and make the plays fit the talent instead of trying to make the talent fit the plays. I also wished Lashlee would shite or get off the pot with QB development. Maybe Gus was not listening and Lashlee was fighting an uphill battle. No matter what really is happening behind the scenes this team is living up to it's potential and progressing. No matter what Lashlee does after this year I expect we will continue to see Gus manage good coaches and compete. If we could win out I would be OK with JJ handing out another extension and a bump.

First off, I wanted Petrino.

Secondly, while I was certainly doubting Gus's ability after the Clemson debacle, I wasn't wanting him gone. Gus is a new head coach and we are going to have plenty of bumps in the road. I doubt they are all behind us. We have to give him time to make his mistakes, learn from them, and adapt.
I think it is just going to come with the territory hiring a new coach. Georgia is just beginning the journey now. Tennessee has spent a decade in jumping from one bad decision to the next.

Gus runs a clean program and is a competitor. He might not be a hall of fame coach when it's all over, but we have to give him some time.

I am against any contract that has ridiculous buyouts. I don't think they're needed and they only hurt the school when trying to get rid of a loser. If TX wanted to run at Gus, his buyout wouldn't mean crap. If we get a 2-10 season, we have to pay $$$ to rid ourselves of the disaster.

I believe just about every Auburn fan recognized this problem since around 2014. Gus inability to fix it is what caused me to lose faith and begin leaning towards wanting to try a new HC.

We were also weary that Gus's hubris was most likely going to be his downfall...his stubbornness that kept telling him it would work. He let that go and gave his assistants responsibility.

If he didn't do that, I doubt we would have beaten LSU or Arkansas, and I would still want him fired. He has saved his job for now.

Its just the way this board has been more than other places I go to talk Auburn

For some reason, this board loves to want people fired. Jay Jacobs, Gus, Rhett, Herb, Chizk, etc

I may be wrong but I still say a lot of that comes from our "State of Alabama" posters. They are so eat up with the "Bama hate", they do not understand how tough it is to build a big time program

You can read back all you want. I was not one of the ones who wanted Gus fired. I actually got pretty fed up with the talk in general. But I do not live in Alabama and I do not have to deal with all the bama talk.

I am too old to panic about things. If anything, I am too slow to react at times

I didn't want Hand fired I just didn't think he was a great OL coach. Thought he would be a good recruiter and would offset but frustrating to watch games 1-4

As for Gus, I'm with most on here. I liked how he was building the roster, I liked the basic principles/scheme and thought he could win

I just thought his stubborn arse was going to stop him from being elite

I'll man up, "I was ready to see him gone. If that's what it took to get a QB coach and to stop running the ball up to middle on every 1st and 2nd down". This staff was shooting themselves in the foot and the team was almost put into a deficient before the game began.

Now I'm of different mind.

Since 'whomever-it-is' is now mixing up play calling and the staff has finally decided on one QB. Now our opponents have to respect some type of passing threat and the RB's have blossomed as a result.

Now if only we can get QB coach.

It's not reasonable to expect to go undefeated every season. The man came in and went to the national championship his first year after the cluster frick that was 2012. Last year sucked. The first two real tests of this year sucked. But, god damnit, he's obviously a good coach.

I believe it. And I do not know any available or soon to be available coach out there right now that I would take over Gus. And other than Saban, there is no SEC coach out there that I would take over him

Lets fill this fricking bus up with gas and ride this bitch till it runs out

I wouldn't take saban over gus. i like x's and o's coaches over guys that rely almost exclusively on the ability to buy players.

Not so fast

It's true the has hyperventilating stopped, But I'm still not back on the Gus Bus (not yet).
If he keeps playing team ball and not giving away games, he could even lose some, then I'm at the bus stop for a ride.

Yeah i was all over how bad I thought rhett was holding the team back. Seemed like gus had the Jj yips coaching and playcalling the past 1 1/2 seasons. Going into the season I wasnt calling for Gus' head. I just wanted to see some semblance of improvement. Obvuously the D is much better thatn expected so they dont need rhe old Guss offense to outscore everyone. It also shows Gus can take a blow to his ego about handing over playcalling, which shows he is growing into the job. O ly knock I still have on the offense is Gus needs to bring in more assistants (qb coach comes to mind) and continue to focus on the overall operations of the program

To be fair we are still basically running it up the middle on 1st and 2nd down. The play in hurry up mode is almost always a zone inside give. The big difference is it its working now because the Oline is mauling people.

I like Gus but wtf are you talking about. Sabans defense is schematically elite and adapts to changing offenses and Gus has run both twirlybird pass and twirlybird run

Let's also just forget that elite talent doesn't guarantee wins. Look at Texas, USC, UF, UGA and FSU. None of them win at the level of Alabama despite reasonably close recruiting
