Spavital has experience learning from good QB coaches and around prolific passing offenses, probably would be a decent hire for what we need.

Let's not think that Spavital is some transcendent OC though

I would be all for it.

Nothing against Lashlee, but I just do not think he brings anything new to Malzahn. A different perspective would probably be a good thing... just do not make it official until after signing day

Would love this. Make them Co-Coordinators with Jake being in charge of QB's you can give Lashlee some other BS title to be in charge of then after this season tell Rhett to politely leave. Spavital might bring some passing routes with him.

I think Rhett is a good guy but we're paying him 500k /year to shag balls for the qbs during practice.

$500k is probably on the low end for coordinators in the SEC. Hell, ole miss is gonna pay McGriff over a million a year and he has zero play calling experience.

I'd like to see some changes, but I'm alright with lashlee staying... if they don't produce next year it's not gonna matter anyway.

I'm not advocating for Rhett, but who would you consider a big name?

I am really not sure who is out there doing great things at a mid major. Art Briles as a rehab gig is what comes to mind first, but there is too much baggage. Beyond that anyone out there in line for a HC gig as a current P5 school is a tough selland it would be hard to draw them in.

I am not really against Lashlee staying, but making a change has to be because Gus knows he wants to turn it over and I don't see Spavital being the new OC as much as a new QB coach.

So what exactly would he bring to the table outside of coaching Manziel?

Serious question.

I am not a "get rid of Lashlee" guy, but Spavital would bring a lot to the table. He has worked with a lot of good college QB's. He would be a solid hire for us............that being said, we aren't going to bring him in.

The offensive system that Spavital comes from is nothing like the one that Malzahn runs. Makes sense to hire him and give him full control of the offense.

I am in the minority, but I don't have any issues with RL. Gus is the head coach. All blame/praise should be directed to him.

I agree 100%.

This has to be sarcasm, right?

If you think Spavital would come in and do a better job you have lost your mind.

Delete this thread, it's making us look like morons.

I see alot of Spavital hate but nothing tangible to back it up.

It has nothing to do with Gus.

Spavital just isn't special and runs a different system. No reason to bring in that type of guy

He was fired at TAMU, and doesn't have a job now. How much more evidence is needed to show he isn't a good coach?

Not saying we shouldn't fire Lashlee, but I was in College Station last year for the AU/A&M game and the fans were cussing Spavital all game and all season. Said he was predictable and couldn't develop QB's. (sounds familiar)

Isn't he the same guy EVERY aggy wanted his head to roll for a full season. Iirc they put most of the blame outside of Sumlin on the QB exodus of last year.

I watched enough to know his Cal offense, ya know the one from this season, was formidable.
