I realize there's a thread, but I can't wade through 100 pages.

Can someone in the know please provide an insightful, accurate update on where we are, where we should end, key pieces, etc.? Would really appreciate if the henny pennies who will never be happy will keep their mouths shut.

Tigerpaw just posted a pretty in depth recruiting breakdown this morning.

At least try to look.

the key players we focused on to finish the class have all committed elsewhere. We are already on Plan Bs and it aint even signing day.

it really does seem to be that we are top group with nearly every player and not finishing on many so far. I still think that the rabid fanbase screaming to fire the coaches for two years is really hurting us with a lot of it.

jangalang will be here shortly to say our recruiting has been piss poor. And he has been right most of the season. Being the argumentative douchebag that I am, I will derail it.

But at same time people seem to just gloss over some huge pulls like Jarrett Stidham, Salvatore Cannella and Kenney Britt in recent weeks. The focus is on all the misses without a ton of credit for some of the big lands. Are we missing? Absolutely and it's frustrating but we have landed some really important pieces too

Unless there is some big shakeups over next month probably aren't gonna pull in the level of class I had originally hoped but the top end of this class is really good and will help day 1 next season

Pretty sure we got Kenny Britt on Halloween... Thats like three months ago. Put the homer aside dude and stick with giving us information.

I didnt read the thing, but seems like we are following the Gus recruiting recipe. We hover around 10-12 in the rankings and hope to pull some shite out of our arse late. Then end up in the top ten when all said and done. However we have had top ten classe since Gus got here he has managed 8-5 at his best with his own players. Just sad.

I agree with you to an extent. Here is my take on the class so far:

Biggest needs:
1. Quarterback. We got a transfer with a high ceiling and seems to fit what we need, time will tell and we got a three star guy that can scoot which seems to be a deviation from the direction we have taken on previous quarterbacks. As good as we could have hoped for without landing a guy like Mond with Stidham.

2. Pass rushers. Nil. Piss poor so far and have missed on everyone so far and hoping to land at the end. Resurgence of UGA closing down their borders has really hurt us here.

3. Offensive linemen, especially tackles. Ashley and Troxell are good ones and we have some interior guys in Brahms and another to be announced. As good as could be hoped for again.

4. Linebackers. Britt, Moultry and Wooten are all good ones and this class shouldn't be glossed over but this seems to be a really deep class for linebackers. Again, probably as good as we could hope for.

5. Running back. If Williams and Barrett both stick and Matthews coming in through JUCO we have landed our top guys so that is another win.

All in all, it sucks to miss so badly on such an area of need and a position that was so strong this season but this class is coming together but there is no denying that we missed on a lot of guys.

Seems pretty accurate of our recent history. Top ten is pretty nice and I would love to get there this year but we won't. Doesn't mean a hill of beans though even if we did get top ten. We would still be third or fourth or whatever in the SEC and I think that stat is more important and more relevant to us. And as evidenced by the fact that Bama's early enrollees alone would be the number 7 recruiting class, its apparent that we are not closing the talent gap with our top ten classes. The gap is widening if anything.
I just hope the talent gap doesnt start increasing with Georgia..

It's an 8-5 class.

Would be a bust if not for Stidham.

I think it would be a top end 8-5 class if that is how you want to classify it. We landed a lot of top end talent at a lot of placed of need, just not going to fill all the needs with starter quality players.

Right now, the country has to just weather the Saban storm. They are widening the talent gap with everyone and with every kid wanting to play early at every other place, it is tough to get them to hang around a couple years to learn and get stronger before taking the field. Clemson beat Alabama with coaching and upper classmen, not a bunch of talented young guys.

UGA and Smart are going to hurt us more than anything because we are used to going into Georgia and taking 2 or 3 of their top 10 guys and keeping that gap with them and right now it doesn't seem we are going to be able to do that for a couple more seasons. IF Smart drops a deuce again and finishes around the 8-5 mark like we did then his recruiting may fall off a bit.

half of the Aub posters would rather be 8-5 and uphold the Creed. So they should be thrilled.

IMO, announcing the new OC sooner than later would bring optimism to the whole class and the whole process and might nudge a few recruits who are on the fence...even defensive recruits.

"A rising tide lifts all boats," so to speak.

I may be naive and all fence-straddlers have been informed of the new hire, but I don't think we should underestimate how optimistic news, shared daily between friends and bandied about on social media, influences these 18 year olds' decisions as they approach signing day.

It's a good not great class... addresses some needs but overall lacks top end talent (save for a couple guys).

This kinda class is fine, as long as you follow it up with a better/deeper class... going multiple years in the 15ish range and we'll start to see a noticeable talent drop in 2018 and beyond.
