Wut? Barrett and Matthews are perfect for our offense.

So a 190 pound guy and a 200 pound guy are perfect for us? Once we lose Pettway, there are not big backs in our tackle box.

I think we saw with Kerryon Johnson, we need a big back. Not a 200 pound kid trying to run between the tackles. I get that they could add some weight but we need some bigger backs.

Who are they?

4* Devan Barrett | #12 RB
4* Alaric Williams | #6 ATH
3* Octavius Matthews | #1 JUCO ATH

Barrett is the guy I am really excited about

Tre Mason was 205
Mike Dyer was 210
Cap was 210

These guys coming in aren't that far away after they spend some time in collegiate weight room. There aren't a ton of dudes like Pettway out there tho there is a similar guy in the 2018 cycle Harold Joiner

We don't have to have a 230+ guy to have success. It's more fun for sure but not a necessity

We at least need someone that is iver 200 pounds. 215-220. You have to know Cap was over 210. Haha.

I don't see many 190 pound guys putting on 25 pounds to help us.

Also, do we know the status of Malik Miller. Not sure he can be our guy but he had size.

Sounds like you want someone over 215 not 200 lbs because all our guys will end up at least around the 200 lb spot which is plenty big enough to compete

just going off AU site

They don't have to. Put on 10-15 lbs and they are 200+.

I am excited about him. Very physical back

I think you are over valuing 220+ RBs. We have had guys not that big be very successful. I would argue that Tre Mason has been the best RB in our system so far and he wasn't close to Pettway's size. Either way I would encourage you to check out at least Barrett's highlights. He's a guy that fits real well into our system at RB and should be a big time contributor in the coming seasons

Pettway trumps Tre by a long shot....

Cannot imagine how deadly our zone read would've been with Pettway and Marshall..

Ei don't agree with you on this one. Tre was far better than Pettway.

I don't remember Tre missing time due to injuries in 2013.

You don't remember the defenses being able to key on Tre or being overworked like a rented mule either.

Didn't tre have like 40 carries in a game....

Maybe pettway has the potential to be better, but tre's results speak for themselves

Tre had 46 against Missouri. And Tre was barely( if ever) touched before five yards after the handoff. The defense was reeling and the tackles were less aggressive when the defenders were on their heels. (The luxury of the HUNH) Tre had a partner in Nick Marshall that helped keep the defenders on their heels also.
Pettway doesn't have that luxury as White wasn't really the type of threat that would force the defense to account for his running abilities. Secondly, defenses have learned more on how to attack the mesh point of the zone read, and they also have learned how to defend the HUNH. Pettway was also the focal point of our offense during our winning streak. Much less deception than 2013 and much more brute force.

And I'm obviously not arguing who had the better results.

You're joking, right? Tre had the read option threat to help him along. Pettway takes what he wants through brute force with little help from other threats.

I dont think I am joking. Its amazing how fast people forget. I really like Pettway. He was our offense in 2016. But Tre's ability to find holes and hit them was unreal. I understand he benefitted from Marshall, hell we all did, but Tre was better overall than Pettway is so far.

Love what Pettway does but Tre was damn near perfect

high praise for a slightly above average SEC back.

what about in 2012 when there was literally no offense outside of Tre Mason and he still had 1000 yards? Were the defenses able to key in that year? He averaged nearly 6 yards a carry and was a third of the offense. Our quarterbacks were Clint Mosely and Frazier for frick's sake. Pettway at least had the benefit of a few games where we had passing options when White was healthy.

Barely. Even Peyton got 1000. Pettway's 1000 was umm pretty easy to be a focal point. Without injury, he could've achieved over 1500.
