All of what Metafour is saying is pretty much true. It was obvious when Lashlee was calling the plays, and when Gus was calling the plays. All in all I really don't think Lashlee was to blame. He at least threw in some wrinkles to the offense and we started clicking. Then later on you could tell when Gus had his hand in it.
He's running the same plays we ran in 2013. Yes they can be effective, but you have to have the right pieces. In 2013 we had NM, Tre Mason, Greg Robinson, Jay Prosh, and Sammie Coates to throw the deep ball to. That is a perfect storm for what Gus want's to do. The problem we're not going to have that perfect storm of players every year. His inability to adjust his play calling to what he has is alarming.
Next season we have an opportunity to be a really good football team. However all this hinges on if Gus will let Chip do his job. Stidham will be a good QB, but he isn't a NM. We will have to implement a better passing attack, and mesh it with an already successful rushing attack. Bottom line is if we see much of the same next season and squander away what should be another solid defense then I think we can all agree it will be time to part ways with Malzahn.

Everyone saying Gus got involved again at the ending of the year sound pretty absurd
Seems more plausible that having no QB/threat of passing wasn't possible to overcome by traditional play calling

Well we can go back to the Clemson and Texas A&M games then. It was clearly a difference from then and the 6 game winning streak. I agree that the end of the year had a lot to do with not having a capable QB. Point being Gus needs to let the offense expand and if he doesn't let it happen it will cost him his job.

Seems to be common knowledge among beat writers.

My thoughts - Gus has no confidence in any QB on the roster to handle the duties so he invents the garbage we saw against Clemson and A&M. Then Lashlee has a little more input and it starts working so Lashlee gets to call the plays and he stretches it out a little, but not much and still no backup QB development. It works because we have great defense killing drives and getting decent field position, great RB play behind an OL that gets a shift to the right places, and a confident QB that plays with all the heart in the world even if he is not a premier QB, this against suspect Defenses makes RL look like a hero and Gus is not worried. Then the injuries start and hard head Gus decides he has to be the mad scientist and goes back to the early year fiasco and RL says "frick it why bother if the stubborn old bastard won't listen." We have a crappy end of year and RL takes the fall and moves on likely in relief.
Lindsey has the right tools. This is all up to Gus to adapt or go down in flames by being stubborn.

Since when did you put stock in what the beatwriters say? While this OC search should be proof they know nothing, they pushed in 2015 Lashlee was the problem.
When either a crippled QB or JF3/JJ is your QB and you are playing WRs at RB because RB1, RB2 & RB3 are all injured, you aren't going to have "good playcalling." There aren't too many good plays with that personnel

When the Chandler Cox whirly bird and run 1st run 2nd pass 3rd returned so did Gus, and it was very clear to see.

Time to anchor this thread. He is our OC, and our short bus posters need to move on.

So you are saying we should have put the ball on 1st/2nd down in the hands of JF3/JJ to pass? Are you out of your mind? We'd be lucky to have 3rd and long and not an INT.

Yes we should've thrown the ball more with JF3 and I feel Rhett would have. And tell me who you think called the 3rd down Chandler Cox pass after it had already been revealed earlier in the game against Bama. That's got Gus written all over it.

Don't forget that there is expected to be a 10th on field coach position added
I've heard people say that this isn't happening. Apparently small schools will not pass it because they can't afford to pay another coach.

There goes our chance at Kevin Greene then. :Sad banana:

hmm, this is the first I've heard anything other than it's all but done....
On another note, 247 has an amazing article they posted with some insight into what the Chip Lindsey offense could look like...well worth the time to watch/read:

Can you post some of it here? It's behind a paywall

Also, I'd just like to revisit this thread and remind us what a cluster these coaching searches are
this thread was hilarious, and it pretty much ended up being the guy that was mentioned toward the beginning

Since it is not pinned now does that mean the melt is over?

I believe the average to below average Oline play this past season doesn't get talked about enough. Even after the switch...we played poorly against Clemson, A&M then also played poorly against uga, Bama and Oklahoma the only teams who had true NFL quality Dlines. We also played average against Vandy which was a top 40 D.
Our line couldn't pass block at all throughout the season and only run blocked well against below average Dline talent. One simple way to compensate for this issue is a dynamic QB, we didn't have it. Then we didn't even have a serviceable one.
