Yeah but they're are alot that would fire a coach every 2 or 3 years unless we win the sec or someone big is out there to hire.

Chip lived off an offense that was not effective against the sec. Ignoring that is ignorant too.

The sample size is too small to come to that conclusion and Chip is smart. He knows he struggled the most in the trenches and would have to have a bigger oline and bigger backs and he would recruit accordingly. Coaches are smart guys and adjust.

Good leaders hire individuals to supplement their weaknesses. Lindsey is know as a good QB coach and passing game strategist which are by far Gus's biggest weaknesses. This is a HUGE upgrade of RL. Not a big time, HR hire, but I like it

Which offensive scheme is this exactly?

If you mean that Chip has an "Air Raid" background and that isn't successful vs the SEC, that just isn't based on fact.

The Air Raid doesn't play against the SEC much but there are plenty of offenses that were "effective" vs the SEC

Air Raid Success vs SEC

- 2012 Texas A&M #1 Offense in SEC
- 2013 Texas A&M #1 Offense in SEC
- 2014 Sugar Bowl Oklahoma 41 points vs Alabama
- 2014 Peach Bowl TCU 42 points vs #9 Ole Miss
- 2017 Sugar Bowl Oklahoma 35 points vs #17 Auburn

I really like Lashlee and think he has a bright future, but completely agree with your point.

Lashlee may be a good coach, but he isn't the coach we need right now

I'm assuming offensive staff. Any guesses?

Fountain has been long rumored to be on the chopping block; I'm guessing he's the coach in question. Maybe they move Burns down to TE and hire a new WR coach?

I'd be surprised if this happens unless it's Chip's decision. Reason is because I think Gus likes having Kodi teach the receivers since he gets the importance of receiver blocking having played under CGM.

Pretty much all professional WR coaches understand the importance of WR blocking; this isn't some special trait to Malzahn's offense, and to be completely honest our WR blocking has been hit or miss during Malzahn's entire tenure. I've certainly seen several other programs that block better. Kodi Burns was brought in to be subservient to Malzahn, not because he was "the best" WR coach we could hire. If Lindsey is serious about adding more passing threat to the offense (why wouldn't he be? He's an Air Raid guy by trade) then it wouldn't surprise me at all if he'd prefer to bring in more of an actual WR coach.

Lindsey previously hired Burns as RB coach at ASU, and Burns coached RBs at Samford in 2014. RB is one of the easier positions to coach so if Burns moves I wouldn't be surprised to see him move there.

That is exactly why he was hired. Paranoid Gus got tired of Craig trying to question him; so he brings in the WR version of Lashlee who he knows won't try to undermine his "offensive thinking process" because A) he's indebted to Gus, and B) he doesn't have the clout or experience to say anything anyway. Craig is a confident and outspoken guy; he's also a product of Jimbo Fisher's offense which means that he knows a thing or two about passing and receiving. His replacement is a quiet guy with little to no exposure in any other offensive system, who's claim to fame was being a shite QB turned blocking WR specialist.

Why else was he brought in? Because he "knows Gus' offense"? Everyone knows his fricking offense by now; often times the defense knows it better than we do. The idea that we couldn't find a more accomplished and proven WR coach given the salaries we pay is pure crap.

Wrong. I had deep conversations at the time of Gus' hiring with austudent22. There were serious question marks about his ability to field an SEC caliber coaching staff; not only due to his inexperience at the time, but also because of his personality and general mindset. If you haven't noticed by now, he's an odd guy, and he's also hellbent on doing things his way. The worry was that Gus Malzahn would be hired and bring his entire Arkansas State staff with him. Coaches like Garner and Craig were 100% thrown at him by those that hired him; and if it came down to Malzahn himself his WR coach would have been Casey Woods who he ended up bringing with him anyway and hiring in an off-field role (Woods was a quality control assistant under Malzahn during his first stint here, then followed Malzahn to Arkansas State). Flash-forward a few years later to our offensive decline and it was heavily suggested to Malzahn that Lashlee be replaced, but he disagreed and convinced everyone that he could fix it by bringing his own guys...hence Herb Hand and Kodi Burns and months of talk from Malzahn about how the staff was "finally on the same page", "cohesion", whatever. A year later with offensive problems obviously still present and Lashlee finally out, his solutions were all guys that he once again already knew: Lindsey, Eli Drinkwitz. That is why this time around the power players stepped in and told him to frick off hence him being told to go after bigger names who they knew wouldn't just buckle under Malzahn.

Everything I've seen out of Malzahn matches exactly what I was told about him before he even got the job. Its the same guy who took his ball and went home when Houston Nutt wouldn't let him do everything he wanted (which later happened with Chizik as well). Nutt and Chizik were ridiculed, but now it is obvious that Malzahn wasn't some poor victim in those ordeals. Like most people who place an over-exaggerated sense of worth on their own knowledge, he places entirely too much emphasis on surrounding himself with people who won't question him too much. This attitude is even present in his playcalling on the field: when things don't work, he rarely adjusts. Its the same complex, just materialized differently.

Wondering if Horton finally takes a job somewhere else and Kodi moves to RB where Chip hired him at ASU. Horton has been awesome but I can see him wanting to gtfo.

I have no idea what Fountain's capabilities are honestly.

Don't forget that there is expected to be a 10th on field coach position added

We may not have any coaches leave just hire a coach

I don't get just throwing coaches coaching a position who have never played that position at Atleast at the college level.
