TT a UGA buddy who usually has good info on the kids North of Atlanta......

Kirby Smart refused the commitment of Matt Corral. They think they have Justin Fields locked up.

My take on that is that they feel good about it and prefer him over Corral, so they told Corral they wanted to wait. That's it.

KN says Harold Joiner plans on announcing in August now. When Joiner was asked about his top group of AU/BAMA/LSU/UGA he says that best being a 10, LSU is a 10 and UGA is a 8 or 9. Sounds like at best we are #3

could end up a star, but I dont' think he's tough enough to play RB.

That's the rumors flying around the web. I think it might have started on the USC 247 board but I could be wrong. Either way it sounds like UGA is going all in right now on Fields

All 4 teams "insiders" are all saying they are gonna get Fields. What scares me with UGA is his momma wants him there. It's hard to be beat momma sometimes (which is why I am still nervous about getting Andres Fox). I still think UF is the least likely landing spot and the longer it drags on I think the more it becomes a AU/FSU battle but the Dawgs are a major threat

I think he's wasted as a RB. To me he's the perfect modern day H-back. You could split him out wide, line him up inline as a TE, use him as an H-Back or line him up in the backfield. The only thing I don't think he can do is run the ball between the tackles 25-30 times in an SEC game. Honestly think he's selling himself short by only being a RB

The UGA 247 guys just put in CB picks for UGA on Fields...

Doesn't sound like Mansell is 100% certain in the pick but believes right now the Dawgs might be the leaders

Coynis Miller releases top 5 (247)
quote:

Coynis Miller, a 4-star defensive tackle from Birmingham (Ala.) Jackson-Olin and one of Auburn's biggest targets, released his top five Thursday morning.

It includes: Auburn, Alabama, Florida, Louisville and Oregon.

The 6-feet-1.5, 300-pound Miller is the No. 17 tackle nationally in the industry generated 247Sports Composite.

Miller plans to announce his college commitment in August.

The 247Sports Crystal Ball currently favors Auburn. He most recently visited the Tigers on June 3 for Big Cat Weekend.

An HB has to be willing to get physical. HJ has not shown much of that through his career so far.

Only if he's an every down HB, which he wouldn't be. He's more of a flex TE/H-Back than a fullback version of the HBack like Chandler Cox.

TEs have to be physical too unless they are pass catching only TEs. On HBs I forgot Chip differentiates HBs as blockers or pass catchers unless he has a do it all type.

Yea, I think for Joiner to be utilized properly for his skill set and his tendency to not play that physical, he'd be best used as a combo of how we used Mario Fannin in 2009 and how the Colts use to use Dallas Clark. Merge those two together and you'd get a game plan for him.

Rusty from UGA 247 says no truth to this as far as he knows & would find it very hard to believe.

Or put him at WR if he can catch.

He can catch for sure. I just think with his size and speed, having him come out of the backfield or around the line of scrimmage against LB's like Dallas Clark would is where he is at his most dangerous.

I'd find it hard to believe he'd actually confirm that. Not out of the realm of possibility he wouldn't know. Could very well be right though too.

Just passing along what my buddy from the area passed along. He usually knows all about the Kennesaw, North Cobb, Gwinnett area kids.

In-state DT says Tigers narrowing gap
quote:

Jalen Cunningham doesn’t hide who he roots for.

The 3-star defensive tackle from St. Clair Co. (Ala.) has a Crimson Tide bumper sticker with a Crimson Tide license plate and a Crimson Tide key lanyard. Cunningham is as big — literally — of an Alabama fan as they come.

That’s why, since the beginning of his recruitment, Cunningham has called Alabama his leader.

His language is starting to change.

RECRUITING: Next five targets to commit to Auburn’s 2018 recruiting class

“It’s not really an order no more, for real,” Cunningham said.

He still says the Tigers have a shot, as do Mississippi State and Ole Miss. Cunningham got a little more specific with his top four when he spoke with my colleague Chris Kirschner following Big Cat Weekend.

3-star DT Jalen Cunningham (Chris Kirschner/SEC Country)
Auburn started to make an ascent toward the top.

“Auburn definitely closed the gap for me. They’re now No. 3 in my top five. Alabama is still No. 1 followed by Mississippi State,” Cunningham said. “It’s crazy. I always thought I would hate going to Auburn, but I really don’t because of this coaching staff. It was really the name Auburn that I hated, but now that I’ve been around them more, I really like it.”

Cunningham still plans to decide before the season. All indications are the Crimson Tide will be his choice.

But there is something for all coaching staff’s to monitor: Cunningham’s weight.

The big defensive tackle weighed 362 pounds going into the spring, and every coaching staff he met with told him he need to shed roughly 30 pounds. So Cunningham cut junk food out of his daily routine and started running suicides at his high school gym on a daily basis.

Auburn and Alabama have sent Cunningham a strict “keep in shape” message, and he’s abiding by it.

Now he’s just trying to separate the four schools in his top four — Auburn, Alabama, Mississippi State and Ole Miss. Cunningham says he’s “seen almost everything” at all of the schools he’s interested in, so it will all come down to relationships now.

He told SEC Country there are two position coaches he feels closest to: Auburn’s Rodney Garner and Alabama’s Karl Dunbar.

Cunningham’s relationship with Garner will be Auburn’s final saving grace.

“Just him having a good personality and him knowing more than half of my family. So that’s good,” Cunningham said.

FWIW I wasn't refuting your friend. Just providing another opinion from another UGA source.

Another DT target releases top 5
quote:

Here’s another top defensive tackle who will likely choose between Auburn and Alabama: Coynis Miller.

The 4-star defensive tackle from Jackson-Olin (Ala.) released his top 5 early Thursday morning, which included Auburn, Alabama, Louisville, Florida and Oregon. Originally a close to Signing Day decision, Miller recently told SEC Country he plans to have a “summer decision” and this top 5 is the first step in that process.

Miller has a few out-of-state programs involved and claims there’s a chance he goes elsewhere. The two in-state programs have made the biggest push, and it seems like he’ll land at one of those two destinations.

Multiple people close to Miller’s recruitment have told me Auburn is the team to beat despite many saying that designation would go to Alabama.
That's 3 major AU recruiting reporters who feel AU leads with Coynis FWIW.

What's with these overweight DTs this year in AL? Timaje Porter is the same way

I think some of his "softness" is overblown tho I do agree he would have to get more physical to become an H-Back. I just don't think his size + running style makes him a RB and I don't think he has the speed to really be a WR. Where he excels is matched up with safeties and LBs. Maybe a big slot WR would be a better way of using him
