How about we hire Sonny Dykes and Tony Franklin from Cal
Hmm, too logical. I think we need to think outside the box more.
Or in this case, outside the coffin.
Vince Lombardi. We get him reanimated via voodoo and he can shamble along the sidelines. Even if we continue to play badly we can at least watch while he randomly attacks and eats people.

logically we should wait to see how the rest of season unfolds

if we seriously got to get a new coach i'd go after northwestern's coach. i've always liked him and he'd be a good fit here

Should we have hired Gus?

Mike Bobo is worth a look if he has a good year at CSU

I'm as far out on Bert as someone in our fan base can get, but he went to 3 straight BCS Bowls, won 10 games a few times, and won a P5 conference three times in a row. That's a pretty decent resume.

Gus? Have you been watching AU this yr?
Posted on 9/20/15 at 2:24 pm to piggilicious
Reality is that we have little choice other than to try and sober Bert up and play football.

Come on, now, man. I agree with a lot of what you write, but, this is just rehashing almost verbatim what the media said during and after the hire(Yes, I've been on a war path against the Arkansas media, but, you'll have to forgive me, because I have a low tolerance for bullshite).
Here's how I look at it.
Who did Bret beat to average 9.75(or something like that) wins a year in the B10?
*Against Penn State, MSU, Ohio State, and Michigan he was around: 9-14
So, if my math is right, he went something like 28-5 against Northwestern, Purdue, Iowa, Indiana, Minnesota, and Illinois.
His record is a facade. It's a shallow boast at best and blind arrogance--coupled with a marketing degree--at worst.
How about all those conference championship rings?
One of the B10 championships was actually split, so it'd be more accurate to say "he co-championed) the B10 with a team he has a losing record to.
One of those B10 championships was backdoored because Ohio State was on probation. He smoked a Nebraska team that they had already played and lost to on the road (Oh, and if you want a laugh, check out that record by the way).
His record in the Rose Bowls were 0-2, and there's a decent chance he would have lost the third, Alverez, who actually had a really good bowl record, lost with the "Bret's"* players. When Bret came to Arkansas he had lost twice as many bowl games as he had won. Those two wins were over Houston Nutt and Randy Shannon coached teams.
*That includes down years for Michigan. If Harbaugh is there, our good buddy probably gets blanked, or, at best, it probably looks like Ohio State's end results; 1-5 baby-And not one in Columbus.
I think you're missing the fact that I agree with you.
My point was that on its face, Bert had a good resume because of his record and BCS Bowl appearances at a P5 conference program. However, like you said and like I've said in several posts the last 24 hours, if you peel back the onion of his record, there a lot of empty calories wins over the likes of Indiana, Illinois, Purdue, Minnesota and Northwestern.
Here are some example posts from my tMelt thread last night after the game about how he's in over his head because .

I'm fricking tired of the "rebuilding" mentality. This is year fricking 3. This isn't the Big Ten, this is the S-E-fricking-C, and we don't have the luxury of rolling conference cupcakes like Indiana, Illinois, Purdue and Northwestern.

All joking aside, we HAVE to get someone who knows the SEC next time.
The biggest pitfall of Bielema's is that he was too overconfident in his processes because of his successes at Wisconsin, overlooking the fact that their schedule was horrendous year in and year out and they never had to face the team speed of SEC programs.
Petrino knew the SEC, it's programs and its speed.
Heck, Nutt knew Arkansas and its fan base, and he knew southern football because he grew up in it despite us being a SWC team in his youth.
Hell, look at guys like Mullen and Freeze. They took over bad situations and difficult programs and they're succeeding partially because they both cut their coaching teeth in the SEC. Same for Gus, though his stock has tumbled as of late.
Bert doesn't know shite about the SEC.
