Worst season since Pelphrey's last two seasons followed by Heath's first. Not in "decades".

The university is owed just 1 million to buy out his contract as of today.

If we don't get Beard or Wade we will be so fricking bad next year everyone is here for Muss no one will stay. It will be brutal to rebuild if it's not a proven bigger name.

And would a bigger proven name even want that situation + NIL issues?

Grass isn't always greener either fellas.

16 years instead of 20. That changes everything. I was overreacting.

Heath's losing record was 20 years ago.

So, what's the scoop on burning bridges with HS coaches? Is it just the fact that he hits the portal harder than recruiting the HS kids?

Whoever replaces Muss whenever that is going to be forced to work the portal to put a decent roster together for year 1.

No one is going to survive a complete rebuild here with a 4-5 year plan. Nor is anyone with a damn going to volunteer for such a feat.

Nor should we.

He's a coach with two straight years of losing records in conference that just finished up our worst season in decades that already makes top 15 national money. He has not earned more than what he currently makes.

Yeah, I don't like the circus HY has allowed around this, but I don't agree with those criticizing him for not fighting for Muss.

Muss was going to be forced to do that, too.

Mike Anderson never had a losing season during his HC career.

This is not the norm for college HCs.

The thought that a losing season means the coach sucks and is easily replaced is misguided and worse than the Arkansas should never miss the tourney logic. Bad years happen, but they shouldn't happen often at Arkansas.

That's what he does.

Some coaches recruit a core from HS to build around.

Only stan Heath has had to build an entire roster on day 1 at Arkansas.

My money is on our fans being optimistic about the hire, until the hire is announced.

Then doom and gloom.

Obviously Muss shouldn't be fired for 1 bad season.

But should we give him a huge raise after he has a really bad season and floats his name at every job opening (even before the season is over), and he's already paid top 15 in the country? Because that's what it would take to keep him.

It isn't necessary a refusal that is the problem, it getting "out in front" and publicly stating you won't fight to keep him.

That's fine if you have equal or better lined up to replace them, but this same AD who talked a big game when firing Chaggy before hiring Pittman because he wanted to be here.

Secondary sport success has greatly inflated HY's ego and bravado.

No one said he sucks. What was said is that his current trajectory is not worth getting into a bidding war over when we're already paying him as much as we are.

No one is saying he deserves a raise and extension.

This wouldn't be a topic if the ad didn't publicly state he wasn't getting dime more because of the losing season.

So in essence HY is fine with "firing" him for one bad season 6 months after refusing to fire Pittman for a terrible season.

Some are saying it implicitly, when they say HY should fight for Muss.

Yeah, I have no idea what kind of circus act HY was trying to pull there.

My posts about HY are specifically about his handling of the last few days and how stupid he has shown himself to be.

I know your post isn’t directed at me in particular, but just wanted to point that out.

It’s come off as very elementary. Sometimes it’s best to keep your dirty laundry in house and not air it for everyone to see.

As an AD you don't do what HY did unless you want to public perception to be you are forcing him out, beciae he implied he is.

Frank was smart enough to keep quite and let Sutton crawl to Kentucky to get way from his coke problem here. He kept quite and let Hatfield get on that plane.

HY runs his mouth and has put himself in the position of making the right hire, a home run hire. The bar is low, just two elite 8s and a sweet 16, should be easy for his next hire to replicate this.

Meanwhile we hope football "moves towards 7-5 or 8-4, it's needs to be moving towards that".

So HY is either forcing Muss out or publicly asking to be fire ld by his comments and actions this past week?

I'm not trying to defend Yurachek. I've been off that wagon for months. I don't see what value he provides as an AD. I don't have faith in him to make the next hire. Any optimism I have for the next hire comes from the fact that we should be the best job available, I think it's still an attractive job based on recent and past success.
