Beard wants the job. Sounds like there's a booster trying to push it on HY. Hopefully, HY doesn't frick this up.

Where is this?

Completely fair take.

Counter-point: It's still Ole Miss basketball. If we can't at least get a conversation started with a coach they employ, it's time to focus on baseball.

Until that Nate Thompson offense kicks in at the worst time in the post season.

Why isn't Yurachek fighting like hell to keep Muss?

A) It's a lost cause.
B) Yurachek wants him gone.
C) Yurachek has his replacement lined up.
D) Yurachek is an idiot.
E) All of the above.

None of the above. Keeping Muss would require an extension/raise, and he's not in a position to receive that from the money guys.

What makes Yurachek an idiot is posting that bus video, and going on that podcast, instead of spending every minute lining up Muss' replacement.

Muss is gone...

And I am fine with it at this point.

He created the team that devolved this past year, lost the lockerroom, lost the PR/Pressers, Lost Nil support, and lost HS coaches... not to mention the losing season.

Gonna miss the dynamics of the last three years though!

There's a lot more money in LA than NWA.
I think he would be able to drum up ample NLI there.

USC is just such a weird fit right now. Conference games against Rutgers, Ohio State and Wisconsin instead of Arizona, Colorado and Oregon State. More exciting on TV sure but that’s a hell of a long commute week in and week out.

The dude is from there. To me it isn’t weird. He felt a bit of heat last year, but was melted by it this year.

This job isn’t for the faint of heart. Once you start winning, you’ve gotta continue to feed the beast. Southern Cal isn’t going to be a pressure packed job like this and it certainly isn’t going to have the rabid fanbase on twitter like ours.

For his coaching health, it’s probably his best move TBH.

I posted this a couple weeks ago but I think it’s pertinent here….

This isn't just sour grapes but at this point I will not be upset about losing Muss. I wouldn't have guessed I'd be saying this a year ago. He's capable of being a great coach, but he has a pretty low floor too.

There are things that have put a bad taste in my mouth - not just W/L record. Mismanaging the roster. Lack of player discipline/accountability. Making what I consider pretty stubborn play-time decisions.

On top of that, I'm just tired of watching this iso heavy offense. I'm tired of watching "potential" guys struggle to adapt to the college game, and going off in the pros.

I'm also tired of giving the other team free points every game after Muss' obligatory blow-ups.

Along with all that, it just shows a lack of loyalty/commitment that he's focused flirting with other jobs instead of rebuilding our (soon to be) decimated roster. I'm not saying I'm out there with a pitch fork trying to run him off. I'm saying if he leaves I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

For those of you worried about losing a HC to SMU... I get that, but it's not that clear. Muss isn't in a position right now to receive a huge raise/extension. If he didn't just have a losing season, that extension would've already been announced and this SMU thing would not be a story. It's not that he's necessarily being pushed out, but I don't think we're getting baited into a bidding war for Muss at this point.

More to it than money as HY has proven he will get into a bidding war with himself as seen by the Pittman contract.

May want to check your notes again

But your point still stands. I think he just wants to go closer to home and his mother, and is probably feeling pretty shellshocked seeing how the fanbase completely turned on him throughout this season - after taking us to elite 8s and a sweet 16 previously.

I wouldn't feel very warm and fuzzy about sticking around, if I were in his shoes. He took us to heights we hadn't been to in 30 years and then one .500 season happens and everyone wants his head, wants him to leave, is spreading bullshite about how he doesn't want to be here and they don't want him here either, etc.

That has to weigh heavily on a coach, I don't care who you are.

So Muss to USC is official?

ETA-Oh, I see where he's interviewing there tomorrow. Yep. Sounds like a done deal. HY basically told him to hit the bricks.

Just reposting that from the SMU cycle. The point still stands that we could probably keep him away from USC if we wanted (although it's less certain than SMU was) but we aren't about to get in a bidding war for him

Nor should we.

He's a coach with two straight years of losing records in conference that just finished up our worst season in decades that already makes top 15 national money. He has not earned more than what he currently makes.
