That is a nice over simplification of each scenario.

Heath had a rough first two seasons, mainly to the charred remains of a program he inherited.

Pelphrey's best year was his first year with Heath's team a quick decline in all areas immediately followed.

Anderson has improved the program in all areas at a steady rate, but he should be fired because of what may happen when the season starts in October based on message board projections in July.

By the same little stat sheet I could say:

John Elle had 2 SEC wins in one season.

Bert has 2 SEC wins in 2 seasons (something no other HC has ever done, had so few SEC wins after 1 then 2 seasons), if this continues he will have be the worst SEC record of any of our HCs after 3 seasons, his seat has to be warm.

Link? 'Cause I never said either of those things.

Its easy to find faults when you do not understand what is being done, or trying to be done.

Ahh yes. Back to the tried and true, "you just don't understand so you aren't qualified to judge" line. That's a Dale classic.

quote:

It is easy to constantly pick at the areas of weakness and ignore the areas of strength in any system/strategy in any sport.

Sorry I've not done enough mental masturbation for your tastes. But, seeing as how it's a team's weaknesses that preclude it from its ultimate goals...I don't see why discussing said weaknesses is offensive. Unless you're biased to an extent where you see any sort of VALID criticism as a character attack. Or fueled by some racist undertone.

quote:

I give you the benefit of the doubt of ignorance of the topic, but really it comes down to you do not seem to like what Mike does or how he does it and especially how much he is paid to do it.

What has my biggest criticism been of Mike? Do you even know? And I don't think I've mentioned his pay before.

quote:

So it is a simple proposition, if Mike is so terrible at his job, tell us all who is available to replace Mike and do it better.

Its that simple.

Instead your response will be along the lines of its not your job, its Long's or something to that effect...

That sounds AWFULLY familiar. Say, back to 2003 or so. It's NOT my job. That's why it's a logical fricking argument. I spend 12 hours a day in a world that DOESN'T revolve around basketball. I can't even watch Sportscenter anymore. But I know that it doesn't take a genius to be a basketball coach. I know there are coaches in programs MUCH less privileged than Arkansas who are having similar/better success.

You have to roll the dice every once in a while. If it works, great. If it doesn't, you try again. If Jeff Long is truly the brilliant AD that many suspect, I'm sure he can find a qualified replacement.

Or do you think our basketball program would be doomed if Mike dropped dead tomorrow morning?

P.S. - I'm not, nor have I EVER called for Mike's job. Paranoid, much?

Assuming we're going to be terrible this year is nothing short of reasonable given the roster we're left to work with.

If he has a losing record in year 5 because of players arrested for counterfeiting money then he has NOT improved the program in all areas and in fact the reputation of the school may be damaged.

The basketball Team has been ranked in the top 50 exactly Once under Mike Anderson.

It's year 5. There are Mike's players and Mike's mess.

Do you think we're going to make the NCAA tournament this season?

Do you think Malik Monk is going to play for Arkansas?

Do you think we're going to make the NCAA tournament next season?

Do you think a coach who has one tournament appearance in 6 seasons and can't land top in state talent should continue to be employed?

Do you think Dave van Horn, WHO HAS NEVER MISSED A SINGLE frickING TOURNAMENT APPEARANCE IN HIS ENTIRE ARKANSAS COACHING TENURE and who has made it to the college world series several times, is less worthy of employment than Mike Anderson?

we've improved every year MA has been here. he deserves our patience to let him sort this out.

if this turns out to be a trend of players acting up and not an isolated incident, bet MA is gone within 2 years. based on wins and losses though, MA probably has 3 or 4 more years to show a trend of winning or losing. it took 4 years to show his current trend of improving.

There is a lot of chatter in this thread.
To make it simple, we were not going to be very good with them.
We are going to be a shite show without them.

It's an informed opinion when someone looks at our roster, assuming Beard, Williams, and Kapita are gone, and assumes that we're going to be pretty bad.

It's a pretty good opinion considering the basketball program may only have 8-9 scholarship players.

Exactly. And the only person to blame is MA. He recruited these thug asses. I could've met Jacorey Williams once and passed on offering him a scholarship. He's recruiting risky kids and this is what happens

We're going into year 5 and we're going to be terrible in a weak arse SEC to boot.

We're not getting Monk, and even if we do he's got no help and gone in one year.

Sadly we'll stick with MA for 2-3 more seasons at least and we won't be relevant during any of them barring a possible up year with Monk.

Sad days for the Bball program

To make it worse. Hearing that Value Outlet (a sketchy bent n dent store in south Fayetteville) is one of the places Beard tried passing those bills. They have a cashier there w/ a mental handicap. The bills were so poorly faked he caught the fakes and wouldn't accept them.

Let's let the season play out before we all bury our heads in the sand.

Malik commits and people will praise MA.

If Malik doesn't commit, we can't blame that on Mike either. Hell, it's seems like he's been at every game he could that Malik has played in.

he'll get a chance but i think in long's mind ma is already gone. I don't see how ma can persuade parents that their son will be in good hands with so many kids going to prison.

even with a nc or ncaat long will be in ma's ear for the rest of his career here. I thought this would be a down year but damn, unless ma pulls off his best recruiting classes the next 2 years, arkansas bb is screwed. I don't even see the point in giving ma more than this year and next.

with all the extra playing time there's no reason ma shouldn't be able to pull out a career saving class. Honestly I'm fine with keeping ma if he recruits his arse off but until then he has a shite ton of work to do.

if the class bombs and we don't even get monk it'll take a big name hire or 5 years of rebuilding before we can even think about being a bb school.

If the three young chaps end up getting kicked off the team, Jimmy Whiitt is going to have free rein.

It is pretty incredible that we can't do better in basketball, given the fan support and resources dedicated to that program.
