How many LBs have we flat out whiffed on?
An easier number to count would be how many have we been right on.

Either way it's on the coaches for not coaching them up or not identifying talent in high school.

Washington does. You seen them this year?

I have, how much is talent vs coaching though? Not like these are Bama level recruits out of high school.

No one has addressed Colorado either. Or Wisconsin for that matter. You think they can out recruit us?

Our defense is a shite show, but so is our offensive line. I hold Beilema directly responsible for that.
Defense, too. If he's proven anything here it's that he's lazy and complacent.

ever notice the look on Bert's face during a game?
yeah that's not the look of a guy that is control and has a full grasp of the situations and a concise knowledge about how to act.

We are getting talent but they aren't being coached.
This right here, in the end it is Bert's responsibility because Smith works for Bert. Changes need to be made asap

I think his biggest problem is that he's loyal to a fault. Once he backs someone, he's all in on them come hell or high water. I said this about him when he was all in on Brandon Allen. Everyone wanted to try some other qb when BA was struggling badly..he stuck with him. It turned out well for him, but it was a long process.
Now it's Robb Smith. He turned the defense over to Robb and said its your baby now. First year was great. Last year was rough. This year is brutal. We will see how this one turns out I guess.
I think empowering people is a good thing, but when it's obviously not working, you gotta shake things up.

Because of that lack of talent we have to play bend don't break but we still get burnt anyway deep.
I've called this defense bend and break and break again.

Yes it's his hire but as far as in game strategy and player development I think he's pretty good.
Player development has been horrendous.
Starting LG is a converted DT.
Starting RG is a grad transfer who couldn't get on the field for the worst Texas teams ever.
The guy who replaced him was a walk on who had to beg for PT.
RT has been a revolving door of sadness.
We have a scholarship kicker and a scholarship punter, both of whom were highly rated, and neither of them start. The kicker is a head case who is probably ruined for good.
Our 4 year starter LT literally couldn't stop getting penalties, and directly or indirectly cost us a handful of games over the course of his career by derping it up at the worst possible moment.
Our entire front seven on defense has regressed tremendously the last two years.
Our coach's supposed bread and butter - the offensive line - is an utter horror show and looks to be worse next year.

Again, on defense I think that's more of a coaching problem (scheme) than a development problem
As for the OL, depth is an issue and that's on him but there were no complaints about his OL in years past (when Pittman, a guy who can coach an OL, was here) replacing 3 OL isn't that easy. I'm still unsure about Anderson. Willing to give him another year but I'm not sold on him.

And when you have the #1 rusher and #2 passer in the conference calling the OL an utter disaster is a little much don't you think?

Good post. We've gone from good to bad and bad to horrible across the board. How???? Why??? Every school loses players to graduation and the draft. That dumb arse excuse is worn out. fricking Vandy has a decent defense.
I'm still in shock over our line play, though. I just don't get how the one thing he's supposed to be good at is this bad.
Toledo and Tech at home wasn't a fluke.

You think our O line isn't shite??? What??
Posted on 11/26/16 at 7:17 pm to hoginthesw
an utter disaster though? Come on. They actually looked decent the last few weeks (save LSU)

I think Bert is an average to above average coach. He's proven he's definitely not elite.
