The problem is it was the only private school in a non-private school area.
Yes, and I understand that's a big problem. In my opinion, I don't think "private school recruiting" i.e. offering "scholarships" to the best players in the area, should be allowed at all, whether there's one private school in the community, or many like in Baton Rouge unless there is more of a level playing field. Even the large public high schools in this area who must play the private schools are at a big disadvantage. It's like going up against a small college. And I have zero respect for any high school coach, athletic department, or administration who play fast & loose with the rules of this so-called "recruiting." It's bad enough that it is so prevalent in colleges, but it should absolutely not be tolerated at the high school level. That is just my $.02.

And they just exude everything that's wrong with the Cross Church and its cult.
This is deplorable.
For some members of an institution of worship to act in a manner that goes against its entire purpose and message, particularly regarding a game, is beyond pathetic. It sounds as though some are worshipping something and someone other than what they should be. For some of the members of that church and community to perpetuate such derision and animosity among their congregation and citizens over this issue is shameful. No community or church should allow something so trivial to divide them. Ludicrous.

I understand your dilemma, and am sorry you're having to leave the church you have attended for years. It is beyond shameful that certain members of that church have caused such animosity and division over this "Gus" issue. Just inexcusable in a place of worship. Obviously, they're missing the point of being there and how they should and should not treat others.

Yes, and 2 of those things do not belong in church, imo. It sounds like some of the members' priorities are misplaced.

I for one do not like the fact that Auburn is doing so well, but as an Arkansan, I can say I am proud to see another man from our state have so much success.
why? can we not dislike someone from our state? do you like everyone you've encountered within the state? does the auburn family like all the alabama players or coaches simply because they say alabama on their jerseys which is their state?

All of the comments slamming Gus/Auburn just sounds like sour grapes and jealousy.
i always think that is the stupidest argument. you don't like someone so you're jealous? sounds like a momma to a 1st grader, oh baby they're just jealous it's not the boogers hanging out of your nose. i haven't liked gus since well i guess since he coached for us- have i been jealous all these years?

amen sister. the thing is not all private schools do this or would do this but it paints a black eye on them all imo.

Exactly. Not all private schools take part in this by any means.
It's ironic that the main schools down here that do are the biggest supposed Christian schools in the area, and they're different denominations. They are all about winning, by all means. So hypocritical.
Down here a few years ago, the largest Baptist private school's cheerleading team (some of whom were recruited, allegedly) went to Orlando to the national competition. While there, several of them were caught stealing from a Disney World gift shop. Much to the schools's dismay, it made the local news - all 3 affiliates. This is way off topic, but just a funny story.

Doubt it

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, I have mine and others have their own. I'm just not going to jump on the NWA (-Springdale) train and hate the man just because he ran up the score on Corn Cobb High or just because he is out performing our coaches right now.
