For the topic I was referring to it is. Whether you feel one way or the other is completely your own belief. Like I stated before I don't have any feelings one way or the other on that issue.

One piece of legislation and a judge doing his/her job does not make a state progressive.

A federal judge agrees with you. If true equality in marriage is what is being sought a polygamous marriage would be as deserving of Constitutional protection as a gay marriage. LINK. Probably would extend to marriage among family members too provided they are consenting adults.

Also it was 75% of the voters that voted for the amendment to the state constitution banning gay marriage which the judge struck down so I don't understand the argument about being progressive. LINK

Arkansas is as progressive as you seem to believe Georgia is. We are closer to medical marijuana. Most think we'll pass it this time.

Arkansas was in front of the south in smoking bans.

Now we might be first in gay marriage.

In what areas do you think Georgia as a state is super progressive? I'm not seeing it.

Please see my edit. 75% of the voters voted AGAINST gay marriage.

I know. I conceded that it wasn't voter-driven.

Anyway, since Georgia is so progressive by comparison (which is the little sidebar I'm in), lets compare.

Georgia voted to ban gay marriage: 76.2% in favor

Arkansas voted to ban gay marriage: 74.95% in favor

Even by that measure, Arkansas is still slightly more progressive as a state.

I remember voting for it- that was honestly one of the worst worded ballot items I've ever read. I swear I left there hoping I voted it for it as I intended Now maybe I'm just a dumbass but I spoke with others who agreed it was worded badly.

Eta: the confusion I think if I remember correctly was if I was voting for gay marriage or if I was voting for gay marriage ban.

Eta2: now I'm thinking maybe I'm getting this and the adoption thing confused.

If those votes were taken today, they wouldn't remotely be the same.

I think Arkansas passes/allows bullshite "progressive" issues that make zero fricks in your daily life just to piss off Oklahoma and Texas.

So this law is going away too?

5-14-122. Sodomy. (a) A person commits sodomy if such person performs any act of sexual gratification involving: (1) The penetration, however slight, of the anus or mouth of an animal or a person by the penis of a person of the same sex or an animal; or (2) The penetration, however slight, of the vagina or anus of an animal or a person by any body member of a person of the same sex or an animal. (b) Sodomy is a Class A misdemeanor.

Why would Arkansas's laws piss off Texans?
We're about as pro-states' rights as they come.

If all of this holds up I think traditional marriage as we know it will come to an end. Some may believe that to be a good thing; I don't know, maybe many think that will be a good thing.

It certainly seems as though it is going to be difficult to defend any law forbidding marriage between two consenting adults. Beyond that who knows.

Of course the United States Supreme Court will have the last word on it.

BTW our sodomy law you quote was stricken in Jegley v. Picado several years ago. It is still on the books and may still apply if animals, as opposed to humans, are involved.

Atlanta is progressive. Athens is progressive. Georgia as a state, sadly, is not.

The definition of marriage has always been a man and a woman. That's what I don't like. The gays keep changing the definition of words. Who else does that? Nobody. Gay used to mean happy, they changed that. fig used to be a bundle of sticks, they changed that.

Marriage is between a man and a woman. If they want to have some bond or union, okay but marriage is between a man and a woman. You can't just redefine words because you find their definitions/meanings limiting.

At this pace one day women will be called bitches to their face all the time because we can redefine words when we find them limiting.

Ummmm... that already happens.

Marriage is an archaic pile of steaming dog feces. It shouldn't be up to the state to begin with.

How am I talking bullshite? Just because you don't like what I have to say doesn't mean that it's bullshite.

They don't hold a candle to Sodom, they were the pioneers of progressive.
