A mediocre passer with our wide receivers would put up huge numbers. Hurts is surrounded by the most elite collection of skilled talent in America yet we are still making excuses for him and propping up his ability to move.

4:38 and 5:12 same play I believe.

That's the stuff I'd like to see more of.

I don't think he really needs any excuses. The dude is 15-1 as a starter, and it doesnt look like he's slowing down

When a game is actually lost solely due to him then I will start thinking that he isn't the guy. And please spare me the absurd notion that he was responsible for us losing the NC game last year.

a guy like Tua for example.

And if Tua's not perfect, you will be screaming for Mac Jones...Alabama, where the backup QB is the most popular guy on the team...

Cam was a good, not great, pass blocker...but he was an outstanding run blocker...

Was he the best lineman in the country?

I said the same but isn't it troubling to know that if our opponent has a stout defense we aren't gonna be able to pass for more than 100 yds or score many points? Last year's excuse was that we had a true freshman quarterback. How many times this year are we going to say "well, they had a good defense"? Will be nice to be able to stop making excuses and actually get the job done.

Exactly. Everyone keeps propping up FSUs defense like it was the 85 Bears.
And yeah, maybe we won't face a defense that good again until the national title game. The problem is that we certainly will face a defense like that again, and when we do we'll be very beatable

Is the Heisman Trophy winner the best player in the country every year? Is the Thorpe award winner the best DB in the country every year? You can make that argument 'bout every award...

He may not have been the best lineman in the country, but he was in the conversation...and he was the 3rd OL taken in the NFL draft so they must've thought he was one of the best as well...

So, what you're saying is people get awards they don't necessarily deserve?

We're back to my point about Jalen and the "Offensive Player of the Year" award.

Look, Jalen, overall did pretty well FOR A FRESHMAN. Unfortunately, we weren't, and aren't, competing against freshmen. We're competing against whole teams. He put up stats - some of them of his own doing, and some due to the coaching and skill around him. Imagine Jalen last year playing for some mediocre team. Does "he" still go 15-1 like some people are touting? No, that's ridiculous. Does he win SEC Offensive Player of the Year? No, he doesn't. He's not above critique. The same people who want to prop up his mediocre play, want to run every kicker we've ever had out of town, and some of them were better than mediocre. I don't hate Jalen. I'm also not a football genius on X's and O's. But, I'm a reasonably intelligent person with a healthy level of reason. I think blind homerism is a bit unrealistic. I like Jalen. I just get annoyed with the people that refuse to see that he really held us back last year.

I hope they come out passing in the next two games and don't let Hurts run. I hope he throws for 500 yards in both games and looks like a Heisman candidate. But, I'll just be happy to see improvement in the right direction. I don't want another year of scheming around a QB that can't stretch the field.

I said we'll be very beatable if we don't improve. Not beatable.

They are a very talented Defense, there is no question about it. They also have one of the best secondary groups in the country. Let's see how things go when the OL gels and Hurts has a few seconds to see the field. Judge him then, and Teague, for god sakes, his performance last year was outstanding for his limited time on the team. I stand by my statement, making absurd comments that are proven incorrect in 5 seconds make us look stupid.

My point is that worrying about being "beatable" is kind of dumb considering we've lost at least one game every year Saban has been there with the exception of 2009 where we had had some extremely close games.

To me, what you're saying is "Let's judge Hurts when he ISN'T playing a good defense."
If Jalen throws for over 200 vs. LSU I'll eat my words

No what I'm saying is let's judge him when A. the OL gels in a few games and B. were not playing one of the best defenses in the country on our very first game of the year.

We have 1 sample for Jalen in the 2017 Season 1.
